Experiences of childhood emotional maltreatment and emotional intelligence in young men
In men, experiences of emotional neglect during childhood but not of other maltreatment types seem to be associated with a diminished ability to manage one's emotions in adulthood. The present findings support the idea of a strategic emotional intelligence vulnerability following emotional neglect
Including the spiritual dimension in the treatment of patients with affective disorders
The results of this study suggest that the SDRQ is a reliable, valid and user-friendly screening tool for assessing spiritual distress, spiritual resources and spiritual coping in patients with affective disorders. The use of the SDRQ may be useful to adequately address and integrate spiritual aspects in a multimodal care approach
Deployment of attention to facial expressions varies as a function of emotional quality—but not in alexithymic individuals
Our results show evidence of attentional biases for positive and fearful social information in non-alexithymic individuals, but not in alexithymic individuals. The lack of spontaneous attentional preference for these social stimuli in alexithymia might contribute to a vulnerability for developing emotional disorders. Our data also suggest that briefly presented emotion words may not facilitate gaze orientation toward emotion-congruent stimuli
Do Chronic Pain Patients Wish Spiritual Aspects to Be Integrated in Their Medical Treatment? A Cross-Sectional Study of Multiple Facilities
Background: Chronic pain is a complex, multidimensional experience. Spirituality is hypothesized to impact pain experience in various ways. Nevertheless, the role that spirituality plays in multimodal pain therapy remains controversial and, to date, quantitative data on whether and for which patients spiritual aspects should be considered in the treatment of chronic pain is lacking. The aim of this study was thus to investigate the proportion and…

Psychiatric Symptom Profiles Predict Functional Impairment
Objective: Mental illness often interferes with daily functioning and an individual's pattern of psychiatric signs and symptoms may predict risk of future disability. Understanding the linkage between psychiatric symptoms and impaired functioning is critical for accurate rehabilitation planning and legal assessment. Here, we investigated the stability of functional impairment measures over 18 months and their association with psychiatric symptoms…

These findings are conducive to a better understanding of affect regulation that may be important for the psychological adaptation of patients …
