Prevalence and effects of sleep-disordered breathing on middle-aged patients with sedative-free generalized anxiety disorder
Average age 55 years and mean BMI 23 kg/m 2 patients with GAD and matched controls had an undiagnosed SDB prevalence of approximately 50%. SDB correlated with worsening anxiety severity and reduced cardiac autonomic function. Moreover, age and BMI were considered major risk factors for predicting undiagnosed SDB
Comparison of Clinical Manifestations, Treatments, and Outcomes between Vespidae Sting and Formicidae Sting Patients in the Emergency Department in Taiwan
Formicidae sting patients presented to the ED with higher rate allergic reactions and spent more time in the ED than Vespidae sting patients. However, Vespidae sting patients had more complications and higher rates of admission, especially with anaphylactic reaction. Laboratory data, especially creatine kinase data, were more valuable to check in Vespidae sting patients with an anaphylactic reaction in the ED. Both groups exhibited positive corre…
Electroconvulsive Therapy and Risk of Dementia—A Nationwide Cohort Study in Taiwan
Background: Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is an effective treatment for schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and major depressive disorder, and a temporary memory loss may occur after ECT. However, the association between ECT in patients with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and major depressive disorder, and the risk of dementia is yet to be examined. Objective: This study aimed to clarify as to whether ECT is associated with the risk of dementia …
Increased Risk of Psychiatric Disorders in Allergic Diseases
Allergic diseases are therefore associated with a 1.66-fold increased hazard of psychiatric disorders in Taiwan
Sex-Specific Association Between Nerve Growth Factor Polymorphism and Cardiac Vagal Modulation
OBJECTIVE: Substantial research has shown that anxiety disorders are associated with decreased cardiac vagal tone, which is a known risk factor for cardiac vulnerability. A functional nerve growth factor (NGF) polymorphism (rs6330, c.104C > T, p.Ala35Val) has been associated with anxiety such that in males but not females, T-allele carriers exhibit higher levels of trait anxiety. Here we investigate whether the nonsynonymous NGF variant has an ef…
