How does music performance anxiety relate to other anxiety disorders
Music performance anxiety (MPA) is considered a social anxiety disorder (SAD). Recent conceptualizations, however, challenge existing MPA definitions, distinguishing MPA from SAD. In this study, we aim to provide a systematic analysis of MPA interdependencies to other anxiety disorders through graphical modeling and cluster analysis. Participants were 82 music students ( M age = 23.5 years, SD = 3.4 years; 69.5% women) with the majority being voc…
An examination of mobile phone pointing in surface mapped spatial augmented reality
We investigate mobile phone pointing in Spatial Augmented Reality (SAR), where digital content is mapped onto the surfaces of a real physical environment. Three pointing techniques are compared: raycast, viewport, and direct. A first experiment examines these techniques in a realistic five-projector SAR environment with representative targets distributed across different surfaces. Participants were permitted free movement, so variations in target…
Direct Pen Interaction With a Conventional Graphical User Interface
We examine the usability and performance of Tablet PC direct pen input with a conventional graphical user interface (GUI). We use a qualitative observational study design with 16 participants divided into 4 groups: 1 mouse group for a baseline control and 3 Tablet PC groups recruited according to their level of experience. The study uses a scripted scenario of realistic tasks and popular office applications designed to exercise standard GUI compo…
The Impact of Control-Display Gain on User Performance in Pointing Tasks
We theoretically and empirically examine the impact of control display (CD) gain on mouse pointing performance. Two techniques for modifying CD gain are considered: constant gain (CG) where CD gain is uniformly adjusted by a constant multiplier, and pointer acceleration (PA) where CD gain is adjusted using a nonuniform function depending on movement characteristics. Both CG and PA are evaluated at various levels of relationship between mouse and …
