Parent-Reported Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) of Nicu Graduates in Their First Year
Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) graduates during the first year after birth is unknown. Gaining more insight into parental perspectives on HRQoL in this group may aid healthcare professionals in follow-up care. We aimed to assess HRQoL of NICU graduates during their first year after birth from a parental perspective using the newly developed Infant Quality of Life Instrument mobile application questio…
Cerebrovascular Autoregulation in Preterm Infants Using Heart Rate or Blood Pressure
In conclusion, HR and MABP do not seem interchangeable when assessing CAR in preterm infants
Early Cerebrovascular Autoregulation in Neonates with Congenital Heart Disease
Neonates with congenital heart disease (CHD) display delayed brain development, predisposing them to impaired cerebrovascular autoregulation (CAR) and ischemic brain injury. For this paper, we analyzed the percentage of time with impaired CAR (%time impaired CAR) during the first 72 h after birth, the relation with clinical factors, and survival in 57 neonates with CHD. The primary outcome was a correlation coefficient of cerebral oxygenation (r …
Prenatal Environmental Exposure to Persistent Organic Pollutants and Reproductive Hormone Profile and Pubertal Development in Dutch Adolescents
Persistent organic pollutants (POPs), such as polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), may interfere with hormonal processes. Knowledge about the effects of prenatal exposure to PCBs and their hydroxylated metabolites (OH-PCBs) on pubertal development is limited. Therefore, the aim of the current study was to determine whether prenatal environmental PCB and OH-PCB exposure are associated with reproductive hormone levels and pubertal characteristics in 1…
Fidgety Movements Assessment Accuracy Survey in Japan
To investigate the accuracy of fidgety movements (FMs) assessment in Japanese assessors. Sixty specialists participated in the first survey. Of the participants, 18 were assessors certified by the GMs basic-training course. The surveys were composed of FMs assessment of 20 video clips. The correct assessment rates (CARs) were investigated. The survey videos were judged into three types: normal (F + +, F +), abnormal (AF) and absent (F + -, F -). …
Combining Kangaroo Care and Live-Performed Music Therapy
Interventions such as kangaroo care (KC) and live-performed music therapy (LPMT), are increasingly used to facilitate stress reduction in neonates. This study aims to investigate the effect of combining the two on physiological responses and neurological functioning in very preterm infants. Infants received six sessions of LPMT. KC was added to one LPMT session. Physiological responses included heart rate, respiratory rate and oxygen saturation. …
Maternal Anxiety, Infant Stress, and the Role of Live-Performed Music Therapy during Nicu Stay in The Netherlands
Having an infant in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) elicits maternal anxiety, which may hamper parent-child bonding. We performed a prospective cohort study to describe anxiety in mothers of infants born before 30 weeks of gestation during NICU stay in The Netherlands, and investigated the influence of infant stress and gestational age. Second, we performed a randomized-controlled live-performed music therapy trial (LPMT trial) to investi…
Development of a Prediction Model to Identify Children at Risk of Future Developmental Delay at Age 4 in a Population-Based Setting
Our aim was to develop a prediction model for infants from the general population, with easily obtainable predictors, that accurately predicts risk of future developmental delay at age 4 and then assess its performance. Longitudinal cohort data were used ( N = 1983), including full-term and preterm children. Development at age 4 was assessed using the Ages and Stages Questionnaire. Candidate predictors included perinatal and parental factors as w…
