  • Emotion Knowledge, Loneliness, Negative Social Experiences, and Internalizing Symptoms Among Low‐income Preschoolers

    Open Access•Justin E Heinze, A L Miller et al.•ARTICLE•Social Development•2014•Cited by: 2•References: 10

Children with poor emotion knowledge (EK) skills are at risk for externalizing problems; less is known about early internalizing behavior. We examined multiple facets of EK and social-emotional experiences relevant for internalizing difficulties, including loneliness, victimization, and peer rejection, in Head Start preschoolers ( N = 134; M = 60 months). Results based on multiple informants suggest that facets of EK are differentially related to…

  • A randomized control trial of integrated care for families managing infant colic

    Open Access•Amy L Salisbury, Pamela High et al.•ARTICLE•Infant Mental Health Journal•2012•Cited by: 3•References: 50

This article presents a randomized clinical trial examining the effectiveness of a unique model of integrated care for the treatment of infant colic. Families seeking help for infant colic were randomized to either the family‐centered treatment (TX; n = 31) or standard pediatric care (SC; n = 31). All parents completed 3 days of Infant Behavior Diaries (Barr et al., 1998) and the Colic Symptom Checklist (Lester, 1997 ), Beck Depression Inventory …

The Early Childhood Screening Assessment (ECSA) is a primary care screening measure developed to identify very young children (11⁄2–5 years old) who need further emotional or behavioral assessment. The ECSA was developed specifically to meet the logistical constraints of primary care settings. This study assessed the preliminary psychometric properties of the ECSA by comparing it with extant validated measures of young children's emotional and be…

The combined impact of infant colic and maternal depression on infant, parent, and family difficulties was examined. Questionnaires completed by the mother prior to treatment onset were used to measure depressive symptoms in the mothers, infant cry, sleep and temp…

  • Early Head Start MAP: Manualized Assessment of Progress

Open Access•Susan Dickstein, Ronald Seifer et al.•ARTICLE•Infant Mental Health Journal•2002•Cited by: 1•References: 27

We present the Early Head Start MAP (Manualized Assessment of Progress) system, a newly developed program evaluation protocol for Early Head Start (EHS). Briefly, EHS is a prevention program for low‐income families with infants, toddlers, and pregnant women. The EHS MAP protocol was designed to be incorporated into the fabric of the EHS program, utilized by all EHS staff members with input from EHS families. As such, it serves to document ongoing…

We present pilot data of a newly developed attachment measure, the Marital Attachment Interview. This interview was developed to assess adults' representations of their current relationship with a partner as an adjunct to available assessments of relationship representations of parents with young children (infant-parent attachment) and adults with their own parents (adult attachment). From this pilot study of 24 couples, we present: (1) the distr…
