  • Common and Idiosyncratic Inflation

Open Access•Hie Joo Ahn, Matteo Luciani•ARTICLE•Journal of Applied Econometrics•2026

We disentangle price changes due to economy‐wide shocks from those driven by idiosyncratic shocks by estimating a two‐regime dynamic factor model with dynamic loadings on a new large dataset of finely disaggregated monthly personal consumption expenditures price inflation indexes from 1959 through 2024. We find that up to the mid‐1990s and after the COVID‐19 pandemic, common shocks were the primary driver of US inflation dynamics and had long‐las…

  • Measuring the Output Gap using Large Datasets

Matteo Barigozzi, Matteo Luciani•ARTICLE•The Review of Economics and…•2023

We propose a new measure of the output gap based on a dynamic factor model that is estimated on a large number of U.S. macroeconomic indicators and which incorporates relevant stylized facts about macroeconomic data (comovements, nonstationarity, and the slow drift in long-run output growth over time). We find that (1) from the mid-1990s to 2008, the U.S. economy operated above its potential and (2) in 2018:Q4, the labor market was tighter than t…

  • Antiplatelet Effect of Melatonin through Breastfeeding

Open Access•Sonia Iavarone, Michela Massoud et al.•ARTICLE•Children•2023

The child was referred to our hematology outpatient clinic because of bleeding episodes that she presented since birth. Blood tests excluded the presence of blood coagulation diseases. The family history was negative for bleeding disorders. The child did not consume any drugs, food supplements, herbal teas or infusions. We perfo…
