  • Person Perception of Type As and Type Bs: A Round Robin Analysis

Open Access•Marina Dipilato, Stephen G West et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Social and Personal…•1988•Cited by: 1•References: 11

The present study examined the perceptions that others have of the interpersonal style and behaviors of Type As and Type Bs. Fifteen groups of six college males (three of each type) who were acquainted with each other were asked to rate themselves and the other members of the group on six Type A-related adjectives and other exploratory personality dimensions. The round robin design used in this study permitted a full analysis of the factors which…

  • Vicariously and directly learned helplessness and effectiveness 1

    Open Access•George M Chartier, Steven Friedlander•ARTICLE•Journal of Personality•1981

Experiment 1 demonstrated the typical helplessness effect of inescapability on directly participating female subjects. Predictions drawn from social learning theory and comparison level theory on vicariously learned helplessness and effectiveness were then tested in a second study employing the prototypical learned helplessness induction design. In Experiment 2, 180 women served as either observers or direct participants and were pretreated as dy…

  • Self-Attributed Mastery and Other-Attributed Mastery in the Alleviation of Learned Helplessness

Steven Friedlander, George M Chartier•ARTICLE•The Journal of General Psychology•1981•References: 2

The study was designed to provide a general test of the efficacy of mastery, defined as repeated exposure to response-reinforcement dependence, in eliminating the performance deficits associated with learned helplessness, and to provide a specific test of the role of attribution in that process. Helplessness was induced in 60 undergraduates of both sexes by exposure to an inescapable aversive tone in the context of instructions that escape was po…

  • Learned helplessness and learned effectiveness: Effects of explicit response cues on individuals differing in personal control expectancies

W Larry Gregory, George M Chartier et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Personality and Social…•1979•References: 4

Female undergraduates (n = 62) who scored as extreme internals or externals on the Mirels Personal Fate Control Scale participated in a partial replication of Hiroto's learned helplessness experiment. Lights were added to the treatment apparatus, which made explicit to subjects the contingency or noncontingency between their responses and the termination of an aversive tone. As predicted, the performance of internals was significantly impaired by…

  • Comparative test of positive control, negative control, and social power theories of identificatory learning in disadvantaged children

George M Chartier, Robert Weiss et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Personality and Social…•1974•Cited by: 1•References: 3

  • A-B therapist variable: Real or imagined

George M Chartier, José María de Areilza•ARTICLE•Psychological Bulletin•1971
