  • A cyclical model of developing relationships: A study of relational control interaction

    B Aubrey Fisher, G Lloyd Drecksel•ARTICLE•Communication Monographs•1983•Cited by: 9•References: 10

This study sought to discover whether a progressive pattern of relational control interaction was present during different phases of the ongoing interaction of newly acquainted pairs. Transcripts of interaction collected from fourteen dyads during a ten‐day concentrated isolation study were analyzed with RELCOM, a five‐category system of relational control modes. The interaction data were then analyzed with Markov statistics. Nine dyads exhibited…

  • Differential Effects of Sexual Composition and Interactional Context on Interaction Patterns in Dyads

    Open Access•B Aubrey Fisher•ARTICLE•Human Communication Research•1983•Cited by: 5•References: 31

Recent research into whether males and females differ in their communication has been confounded by several variables: perceptual measures, observing isolated behaviors, and same-sex or mixed-sex composition of the communicative system. Some research has suggested that the interactional context may affect whether males and females communicate differently at all. This study sought to determine the differential impact of sexual composition and one …

  • Information Systems Theory and Research: An Overview

  • The nature of complex communication system

    B Aubrey Fisher, Thomas W Glover et al.•ARTICLE•Communication Monographs•1977•Cited by: 7•References: 1

Little is yet known regarding structured or patterned interaction in complex communication systems. Conceptualizing complexity of communication systems as “organized complexity” in time, this study analyzed a variety of communication systems at multiple levels of complexity. Results indicate that the amount of structure contributed by increasing levels of complexity varied from one analytical system to another. The triple interact was the most ap…

  • Phases of Conflict in Small Group Development: A Markov Analysis

    Open Access•Donald G Ellis, B Aubrey Fisher•ARTICLE•Human Communication Research•1975•Cited by: 30•References: 27

Previous research on conflict emanates from a variety of theoretical perspectives and yields inconsistent conclusions. The purpose of this study was to describe the nature of conflict and communication by answering the following question: How does conflict function in the process of achieving group consensus? Transcriptions of classroom groups were subjected to a Markov statistical analysis. The results of the study indicated that phases of confl…
