A Cross-Cultural Analysis of Brazilian, Russian, and American Families
Inclusive fitness theory postulates that preferentially provisioning offspring that most closely resemble the parents can indirectly increase their gene-copying success, with phenotypic resemblance between (allo)parent and offspring acting as an indicator of genetic similarity. According to this prediction, the amount of alloparental effort should correlate with parent-offspring resemblance cues, and this effect should be more pronounced for fath…
Monozygotic twin sisters differ in voice quality: Acoustic analysis of the diphthong [‘oj] produced by Brazilian native speakers
Identical twins challenge individual voice recognition applied in communication, criminal investigation, and health technologies. The similarities between siblings are due to the genetic heritage that produced either their vocal tract or the psychological processes acting since birth. To contribute to a precise individual identification by voice, we tested the hypothesis that even MZ siblings would differ in the spectral distribution of formants …
Brazilian portuguese version of twin relationship questionnaire (TRQ-BR): Evidence of validity
Our aim was to adapt and validate a Brazilian Portuguese version of the Twin Relationship Questionnaire developed by Fortuna et al. (2010) and validated by H. Segal and Knafo-Noam (2019) in Israel. The respondents were 862 Brazilian mothers of twins ( N = 1724 twins) with mean age of 35 years (SD = 6.1). The majority of the sample lived in the Southeast (61.8%) or in the South (24.5%) of Brazil. We conducted a Multilevel Confirmatory Factor Analy…
Face Scanning in Autism Spectrum Disorder and Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder: Human Versus Dog Face Scanning
This study used eye tracking to explore attention allocation to human and dog faces in children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and typical development (TD). Significant differences were found among the three groups. TD participants looked longer at the eyes than ASD and ADHD ones, irrespective of the faces presented. In spite of this difference, groups were similar in that the…
Postpartum depression and child development in first year of life
The aim of the study was to investigate the characteristics of infant development at four, eight and twelve months of age, as result of postpartum depression. The prevalence of Postpartum Depression - measured by the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale - at four months after delivery was 30.3%; at eight months, 26.4%; and at 12 months, 25.0%. Chi-square tests were used to compare children of mothers with and without Postpartum Depression in rela…
