  • Machines, translations and memories

Ignacio Garcia, Ignacio González García•ARTICLE•Perspectives•2012•Cited by: 1•References: 1

Classic translation memory (TM) revolutionised technical translation in the 1990s. ‘Enhanced’ TM will revolutionise most types of translation this decade. The massive memory databases collected over 20 years can now be accessed from TM tools for exact and fuzzy matches. Sub-segmental information (terminology and phraseology) can also be gained from them via manual or automated concordancing. Stripped of metadata and formatting information, they h…

  • Translating and Revising for Localisation

Ignacio Garcia, Ignacio González García•ARTICLE•Perspectives•2008•References: 2

Translating and revising for localisation require specific skills that are distinct from those required for translating and revising for publishing or other purposes. Their distinctiveness is due to several factors, particularly the need to work within a translation memory (TM) editor environment, rather than the usual word-processor. When using TM, translators and revisers are constrained by strict requirements regarding terminology, and leverag…

  • The Call of the Distant Fatherland

    Open Access•Ignacio Garcia, Ignacio González García•ARTICLE•Iberoamericana – Nordic Journal…•2001

It seems accepted knowledge that all America was in favored of an independent Cuba during the second Cuban War (1895-1898), and that it was only after Washington's armed intervention in mid-1898 that this changed, with some sectors of Latin American opinion siding with Spain. This paper challenges such perception. The Cuban crisis divided America from the very beginning, with at least Spanish migrants and the more traditionalist sectors of the Ca…
