  • Differential associations of functional and cognitive health outcomes with pre-frailty and frailty states in community-dwelling older adults

    Open Access•Carra Sleight, Roee Holtzer•ARTICLE•Journal of Health Psychology•2020•References: 24

This study examined associations of pre-frailty and frailty states with cognitive and functional health outcomes among community-residing older adults ( N = 457) in the Bronx, New York. Results: older adults who met criteria for frailty demonstrated poorer performance in attention, verbal memory, and overall global cognitive functioning compared to healthy controls. Moreover, pre-frail and frail older adults had significantly worse health outcome…

  • Coherence

Kathy Kellermann, Carra Sleight•ARTICLE•Annals of the International…•1989•Cited by: 1•References: 10

Rejecting relevance, topicality, cohesive devices, syntactic structure, and comprehension as synonymous with and as necessary and/or sufficient for coherence, this chapter develops coherence as a cognitive judgment on the meaningful state of a text. This judgment of meaningfulness is determined by the relationship between the inferential demands of a text and the knowledge structures (schemata) available to the individual to accommodate those dem…

  • Explanations for visual cue primacy in judgments of honesty and deceit

  • Empathy, communication, and prosocial behavior

    James B Stiff, James Price Dillard et al.•ARTICLE•Communication Monographs•1988•Cited by: 22•References: 14

Two studies were conducted to examine the relationships among different dimensions of empathy, communication, and prosocial behavior. Study one provides a test of three models hypothesized to explain this process. Results of this study indicated support for altruism as a motivator of prosocial behavior and suggest that the egoism and dual‐process models are unlikely explanations. Study two was conducted in hopes of identifying additional support …

  • Invited Article Fudging with Friends and Lying to Lovers

    Open Access•Gerald R Miller, Paul A Mongeau et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Social and Personal…•1986•Cited by: 22•References: 17

Although a considerable body of recent research has addressed the problem of deceptive communication, few studies have examined deceptive communication in personal relationships. We argue that the occurrence, substance, and outcomes of deceptive communication are markedly influenced by the nature of the communicators' relationship. To redeem this claim, we examine how several differences between impersonal and personal relationships may influence…
