  • A many-analysts approach to the relation between religiosity and well-being

Open Access•Suzanne Hoogeveen, Alexandra Sarafoglou et al.•ARTICLE•Religion Brain & Behavior•2023

The relation between religiosity and well-being is one of the most researched topics in the psychology of religion, yet the directionality and robustness of the effect remains debated. Here, we adopted a many-analysts approach to assess the robustness of this relation based on a new cross-cultural dataset (N=10,535 participants from 24 countries). We recruited 120 analysis teams to investigate (1) whether religious people self-report higher well-…

  • Many Analysts, One Data Set

Open Access•Raphael Silberzahn, Eric Luis Uhlmann et al.•ARTICLE•Advances in Methods and Practices…•2018

Twenty-nine teams involving 61 analysts used the same data set to address the same research question: whether soccer referees are more likely to give red cards to dark-skin-toned players than to light-skin-toned players. Analytic approaches varied widely across the teams, and the estimated effect sizes ranged from 0.89 to 2.93 ( Mdn = 1.31) in odds-ratio units. Twenty teams (69%) found a statistically significant positive effect, and 9 teams (31%…

  • Do Emerging Adults Learn What They Live? The Frequency and Importance of Childhood Family Faith Activities on Emerging Adults’ Prosocial Behavior Toward Family, Friends, and Strangers

Open Access•Carolyn Mcnamara Barry, Jason M Prenoveau et al.•ARTICLE•Emerging Adulthood•2017

Since most religions emphasize helping others and childhood family experiences contribute to emerging adults’ behavior, we explored how childhood family religious socialization was related to future emerging adults’ self-reported prosocial behavior after accounting for their current self-reported prosocial behavior. Specifically, we investigated the extent to which emerging adults’ (NT1=551) retrospective views of how frequent (FAITHS-Freq) and i…

  • Maternal postnatal depression and anxiety and their association with child emotional negativity and behavior problems at two years

    Open Access•Jason M Prenoveau, Michelle G Craske et al.•ARTICLE•Developmental Psychology•2017•Cited by: 8•References: 8

Postnatal maternal depression is associated with poorer child emotional and behavioral functioning, but it is unclear whether this occurs following brief episodes or only with persistent depression. Little research has examined the relation between postnatal anxiety and child outcomes. The present study examined the role of postnatal major depressive disorder (MDD) and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) symptom chronicity on children's emotional …

  • The measure of heterosocial competence

    Open Access•Rachel L Grover, Douglas W Nangle et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Social and Personal…•2013•Cited by: 3•References: 75

Guided by the Goldfried and D'Zurilla behavioral-analytic model, we developed and psychometrically evaluated a measure of heterosocial competence and, in doing so, learned more about the construct in young adults. The Measure of Heterosocial Competence (MHC) is a social problem-solving questionnaire assessing competence in challenging other-sex social interactions. Internal consistency was acceptable and component analyses yielded one hierarchica…
