  • User-centered usability evaluation and optimization of the maternal health handbook in Taiwan

    Open Access•Yi-Chen Lai•ARTICLE•Critical Public Health•2026

Introduction: Despite digital shifts in public health, the Maternal Health Handbook (MHH) remains a vital clinical instrument. However, systematic evaluations of its multi-dimensional usability and symbolic value are scarce. This study utilizes User-Centered Design (UCD) to evaluate the MHH’s effectiveness and address optimization gaps in the digital age. Theory: Grounded in UCD, the research conceptualizes the MHH as a complex socio-technical in…

  • Feasibility of Achieving Nutritional Adequacy in Critically Ill Children with Critical Neurological Illnesses (CNIs)?—A Quaternary Hospital Experience

Open Access•Marwa Mansour, Nicole Knebusch et al.•ARTICLE•Children•2024

The literature on the nutritional needs and outcomes of critically ill children is scarce, especially on those with critical neurological illnesses (CNIs). Current evidence shows a lower mortality in patients who achieve two-thirds of their nutritional needs during the first week of pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) admission. We hypothesized that achieving 60% of the recommended dietary intake during the first week of a PICU stay is not feasi…

  • Healthcare Utilization in Different Stages among Patients with Dementia

    Open Access•Yuhan Chen, Yu-Han Chen et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

To evaluate the trend of healthcare utilization among patients with dementia (PwD) in different post-diagnosis periods, Taiwan’s nationwide population database was used in this study. PwD were identified on the basis of dementia diagnoses during 2002–2011. We further subdivided the cases into 10 groups from the index year to the 10th year after diagnosis. The frequency of emergency department visits and hospitalizations, the length of stay, outpa…

  • Association between Anti-Psychotic Drugs Use and Hip Fractures in Patients with Dementia

    Open Access•Chia-Hung Tang, Yi-Chen Lai et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

The findings suggest that caution must be taken when initiating APD use in patients with dementia, even in a small dose, and mixed types of APD prescriptions should be administered with care. Furthermore, frequent evaluation of the possibility of tapering or withdrawal of the medication is necessary, as the risk does not attenuate after long-term use
