  • Keep on Keeping on? Patient Factors Predicting Discontinuation in Alcohol Use Disorder Treatment

Kristoffer Høiland, Espen Ajo Arnevik et al.•ARTICLE•Substance Use & Misuse•2025

BACKGROUND: A substantial portion of patients with alcohol use disorder (AUD) discontinue treatment. More knowledge of predictors of discontinuation is important for clinicians in preventing premature discontinuation and tailoring treatment to the patient. AIM: To investigate predictors of completion versus discontinuation in a sample from a multi-site study on outcome predictors of AUD treatment. METHODS: The analyses included 136 patients from …

  • The association of urine markers of iodine intake with development and growth among children in rural Uganda

    Open Access•Prudence Atukunda, Grace K M Muhoozi et al.•ARTICLE•Public Health Nutrition•2021

Objective: We examined associations of urine iodide excretion, proxy for iodine intake, with child development and growth. Design: This is a secondary analysis of a 1:1 cluster-randomised trial with a 6-month nutrition/stimulation/hygiene education intervention among mothers of children aged 6–8 months to improve child development and growth. Development was assessed using Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development–III (BSID-III) and Ages an…

  • Child development, growth and microbiota

    Open Access•Prudence Atukunda, Grace K M Muhoozi et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Global Health•2019

BACKGROUND: Undernutrition impairs child development outcomes and growth. In this follow-up study of an open cluster-randomized intervention trial we examined the effects of an education package delivered to mothers in rural Uganda on their children's development, growth and gut microbiota at 36 months of age. METHODS: The parental trial included 511 mother-child pairs recruited when the children were 6-8 months. In that trial, a nutrition, stimu…

  • Diet quality on days without breakfast or lunch – Identifying targets to improve adolescents’ diet

    Open Access•A C Medin, Jannicke Borch Myhre et al.•ARTICLE•Appetite•2019•Cited by: 2•References: 31

Dietary intake in adolescents does often not align with the recommended dietary guidelines. Excess intakes of added sugar and saturated fat, and insufficient vegetable intake are among the identified challenges, which can affect future health negatively. Identifying targets to improve dietary practices is therefore essential. The current study aimed to examine the prevalence of meal skipping and if meal skipping days had a different diet quality …

  • Nutrition, hygiene, and stimulation education to improve growth, cognitive, language, and motor development among infants in Uganda

    Open Access•Grace K M Muhoozi, Prudence Atukunda et al.•ARTICLE•Maternal and Child Nutrition•2017

Stunting is associated with impaired cognitive and motor function. The effect of an education intervention including nutrition, stimulation, sanitation, and hygiene on child growth and cognitive/language/motor development, delivered to impoverished mothers in Uganda, was assessed. In a community-based, open cluster-randomized trial, 511 mother/children dyads aged 6-8 months were enrolled to an intervention (n = 263) or control (n = 248) group. Th…

  • The relationships between demographic and clinical characteristics and quality of life during and after radiotherapy

Open Access•Kristin Hofsø, Kristin Bjordal et al.•ARTICLE•Quality of Life Research•2014

  • Diabetes susceptibility in ethnic minority groups from Turkey, Vietnam, Sri Lanka and Pakistan compared with Norwegians - the association with adiposity is strongest for ethnic minority women

Open Access•Anne Karen Jenum, Lien My Diep et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2012

A high prevalence of diabetes was found in 30-to 60-year-olds from ethnic minority groups in Oslo, with those from Sri Lanka and Pakistan at highest risk. For all levels of adiposity, a higher susceptibility for diabetes was observed for ethnic minority groups compared with Norwegians. The association persisted after adjustment for socioeconomic position for all minority women and for men from Sri Lanka and Pakistan

  • Cardiovascular disease by diabetes status in five ethnic minority groups compared to ethnic Norwegians

Open Access•Anh Thi Tran, Jørund Straand et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2011

Ethnic differences in the prevalence of CVD were prominent for individuals without diabetes. Primary CVD prevention including identification of undiagnosed diabetes should be prioritized for ethnic minorities without known diabetes
