Objective Shared decision making may increase satisfaction with health care and improve outcomes, but little is known about adolescents’ decision‐making preferences. The primary purpose of this study is to describe the decision‐making preferences of adolescents with chronic illnesses and their parents, and the extent to which they agree. Design Survey. Low-Level Environmental Lead Exposure and Children’s Intellectual Function
Lead is a confirmed neurotoxin, but questions remain about lead-associated intellectual deficits at blood lead levels or = 7.5 microg/dL (p = 0.015). We conclude that environmental lead exposure in children who have maximal blood lead levels < 7.5 microg/dL is associated with intellectual deficits.
Differential Effect of State Legislation Regarding Hospitalization for Healthy Newborns in a Single Geographic Region
In response to growing complaints and safety concerns,1–4 most states and the federal government have now enacted legislation to guarantee a more reasonable postpartum length of stay.5 The Ohio law required health maintenance organizations, health insurers, public employers, and the state’s Medicaid program to provide a minimum of 48 hours of inpatient care following a normal vaginal delivery and a minimum of 96 hours of inpatient care following …

Estimation of Average Concentration in the Presence of Nondetectable Values
In the attempt to estimate the average concentration of a particular contaminant during some period of time, a certain proportion of the collected samples is often reported to be below the limit of detection. The statistical terminology for these results is known as censored data, i.e., nonzero values which cannot be measured but are known to be below some threshold. Samples taken over time are assumed to follow a lognormal distribution. Given th…
