Revenge and forgiveness after victimization
The Transgression Related Interpersonal Motivations (TRIM) scale measures revenge, avoidance, and benevolence in response to social transgressions that, typically, comprise acts of indirect aggression. We tailored the TRIM for use in forensic psychiatric and victimological settings by slightly altering the instruction to include transgressions that comprise direct as well as indirect aggression. In this study, we examined the factor structure and…
The mediating role of state anger in the associations between intentions to participate in the criminal trial and psychopathology in traumatically bereaved people
Victims of crimes have been granted increasing procedural rights to participate in the juridical process since the mid 1990s. However, knowledge about the (anti)-therapeutic effect of participation is limited. We examined the associations between symptom levels of persistent complex bereavement disorder (PCBD), posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and depression and the intention to participate in a criminal trial. Furthermore, we investigated t…
Revenge and psychological adjustment after homicidal loss
Feelings of revenge are a common human response to being hurt by others. Among crime victims of severe sexual or physical violence, significant correlations have been reported between revenge and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Homicide is one of the most severe forms of interpersonal violence. It is therefore likely that individuals bereaved by homicide experience high levels of revenge, which may hamper efforts to cope with traumatic loss…
Attachment style in the context of clinical and health psychology
By combining the Adult Attachment Interview and the Autobiographical Memory Test, a structured interview was developed as a ‘quick and dirty’ measure for the assessment of attachment representations in clinical settings. The interview intends to assess valence, incongruence, and accessibility of the attachment representations that are organized in various mental models of relationships. In this study the mental models of relationships involving p…
Correlates of Self-Reported Adult Attachment Styles in a Dutch Sample of Married Men and Women
The relationships between attachment style, recollections of the family of origin, working model of self and others and current relational satisfaction were examined in a Dutch sample of married subjects from the general community. Measures were adapted from those developed by Hazan & Shaver (1987). Results generally corroborated the Hazan & Shaver (1987) analyses: subjects endorsing the avoidant and anxious ambivalent styles reported more advers…
The Validity of the μ Index for Differentiation of State and Trait Scales
For 443 men and women of the general population and mean age of 45.8 yr. state and trait measures were obtained on two occasions, 6 mo. apart. Internal consistencies at each time were similar (.84-.95). Test-retest coefficients were lower for measures of state concepts than for trait concepts. Howarth's mu indices were higher for state concepts than for trait concepts
