  • The 2017 Women’s Health Initiative study and use of hormone therapy

    Open Access•Chen‐Han Chueh, P Ho et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2024

The 2017 WHI study did not demonstrate any impact on either menopause-related outpatient visits or HT use among middle-aged women in Taiwan. Our emulated cross-sectional study design may be employed in similar population-based policy intervention studies using interval-censored data

  • Children's exposure to secondhand smoke at home before and after smoke-free legislation in Taiwan

    Open Access•Ying-Ting Wang, Yi-Wen Tsai et al.•ARTICLE•Tobacco Control•2016

The proportion of children exposed to SHS at home in Taiwan declined substantially from 2005 to 2009 after smoke-free legislation, and fell further by 2013, irrespective of SES and household compositions. Still, inequality in SHS exposure at home by SES and household composition warrants future research

  • Explaining selected health behaviors in a national sample of Taiwanese adults

Open Access•Tzu-I Tsai, Shoou-Yih Daniel Lee et al.•ARTICLE•Health Promotion International•2015

Extant research provides little evidence about how health literacy, self-efficacy and health locus of control are related to each other in affecting health behaviors. The purposes of this study were to examine the associations among health literacy, self-efficacy and health locus of control and how the three factors are related to health behaviors using data from a national survey of Taiwanese adults. The analysis showed moderate correlations amo…

  • The impact of smoke-free legislation on reducing exposure to secondhand smoke

    Yi-Wen Tsai, Yi‐Wen Tsai et al.•ARTICLE•Tobacco Control•2013

The 2009 smoke-free policy reduced the SHS exposure for non-smokers. However, this impact on home SHS did not persist after 2009, and the effect of protection was unequal across gender and SES groups. Thus, further enforcement of smoking restrictions would be needed to reduce the risk of SHS exposure and improve protection against SHS risk among parts of the population with lower socioeconomic status

  • Health literacy, health status, and healthcare utilization of Taiwanese adults

    Open Access•Shoou-Yih D Lee, Tzu-I Tsai et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2010

Low (inadequate and marginal) health literacy is prevalent in Taiwan. High prevalence of low health literacy is not necessarily indicative of the need for interventions. Systematic efforts to evaluate the impact of low health literacy on health outcomes in other countries would help to illuminate features of health care delivery and financing systems that may mitigate the adverse health effects of low health literacy

  • Peer Pressure, Psychological Distress and the Urge to Smoke

    Open Access•Yi‐Wen Tsai, Yu-Wen Wen et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2009

These results suggest that both peer cues and psychological cues increase the possibility of contingent smoking, and should, therefore, be addressed by anti-smoking policies and anti-smoking programs. More specifically, special attention can be paid to help smokers avoid or counter social pressure to smoke and to help smokers resist the use of cigarettes to relieve distress

  • Changes of the prescription of hormone therapy in menopausal women

    Open Access•Weng-Foung Huang, Yi-Wen Tsai et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2007

The WHI report caused a substantial decline in the use of MHT to treat menopause-related symptoms in Taiwan. It was found to exert most of its influence in patients with higher educations, physicians with specialties other than gynecologists and obstetricians, and academic medical centers

  • Public opinion regarding earmarked cigarette tax in Taiwan

    Open Access•Yi-Wen Tsai, Yi‐Wen Tsai et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2003

Smoking status and economic factors determine the attitude and potential responses of people toward the cigarette tax. Taiwan's five NT-dollar earmarked tax for cigarettes may have only a limited effect upon the reduction in cigarette use

  • National Health Insurance, Physician Financial Incentives, and Primary Cesarean Deliveries in Taiwan

    Yi-Wen Tsai, Yi‐Wen Tsai et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•2002•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 1

Objectives. Taiwan’s National Health Insurance Program (NHI) was implemented on March 1, 1995. This study analyzed the influences of the Case Payment method of reimbursement for inpatient care and of physician financial incentives on a woman’s choice for primary cesarean delivery. Methods. Logistic regressions were used to analyze 11 788 first-time deliveries in a nonprofit hospital system between March 1, 1994, and February 29, 1996. Results. Af…
