  • LGBTQI+ people on the move

    Open Access•Victor Montoya, Valentina Montoya-Robledo et al.•ARTICLE•Gender Place & Culture•2026

Everyday mobility is a key site where gendered power relations are lived, negotiated, and contested. For LGBTQI+ people, moving through the city can generate moments of joy and freedom while also demanding vigilance, self-monitoring, and navigation of gender-based violence (GBV). Drawing on feminist and queer geographic scholarship, this paper examines how experiences of violence and insecurity shape the everyday mobilities of LGBTQI+ people in M…

  • Men, Women, and Capital

Diego A Escobar, Diego ESCOBAR et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Labor Economics•2024

This paper uses a policy implemented in Chile that obliges firms to fully fund childcare costs for their female employees, but only if they hire more than 19 women. Using plant level data from manufacturing firms, we first show that this policy has had a substantially detrimental impact on the hiring of women above that threshold, in particular since the policy has become more binding, in industrial sectors that hire fewer women and in larger fir…

  • Territorial Accessibility Analysis for Urban Infrastructure Facility Location

Open Access•Asley F ESPEJO, Diego A Escobar et al.•ARTICLE•GeoJournal of Tourism and Geosites•2024

Territorial accessibility analysis is a crucial component of urban planning, enabling decision-makers to determine new locations for urban infrastructure facilities to enhance residents' quality of life. This methodolo…

  • General Condition Assessment Method for Signalized Intersections

Open Access•Juan Gomez, Juan Manuel GÓMEZ et al.•ARTICLE•GeoJournal of Tourism and Geosites•2024

This study proposes a new method created to perform a universal assessment on the status of signalized intersections implemented in the city of Ibague, Colombia. The condition of each signalized intersection is classified according to parameters established to improve vehicular and pedestrian traffic, as well as the long-term development of the city. To achieve the research objective, the aspects to be evaluated are divided in two categories: Fun…

  • Spatial Regression Model of Urban Walkability Under the 15-Minute City Approach

Open Access•Juan E ARISTIZÁBAL, William SARACHE et al.•ARTICLE•GeoJournal of Tourism and Geosites•2023

The 15-minute city aims to decentralize the urban economic poles to provide local services to its entire population. The objective of this research is to geographically determine the economic poles in an intermediate Latin American city and evaluate their geospatial coverage. This research develops a geographic accessibility model to analyze the spatio-temporal distribution of the economic poles, considering the socioeconomic stratum of household…

  • Inequity Analysis in the Low and High Complexity Public Services Supply in Relation to Beds Availability in Manizales - Villamaría Conurbation

Open Access•Diana Carolina LEAL, Diego A Escobar et al.•ARTICLE•GeoJournal of Tourism and Geosites•2023

This research aims to determine the current conditions of geographical accessibility to and from healthcare centres in Manizales and Villamaría conurbation through the Enhanced two- step floating catchment area (E2SFCA) method, supported by geographic tools and socioeconomic assessments. The main result is that the average number of beds per 1000 inhabitants in low complexity systems is below the average defined for Colombia and Latin America, th…

  • Smoke signals

NORMAN MALDONADO, Blanca Llorente et al.•ARTICLE•Tobacco Control•2019

After the tax increase, Colombia's PIC remained at low levels, and there is enough space for new tobacco tax hikes

  • Measuring illicit cigarette trade in Colombia

NORMAN MALDONADO, Blanca Llorente et al.•ARTICLE•Tobacco Control•2018

The low overall penetration of illicit cigarettes in Colombia indicates that the industry's warnings against tax increases are not justified. The limited importance of tax levels as determinant of consumption of illicit cigarettes is also suggested by the differences across cities, all of them with the same tax regime
