Short-term air pollution exposure and risk of respiratory pathogen infections
This large-scale epidemiological study demonstrates significant associations between short-term air pollutant exposure and respiratory infections, particularly highlighting the risks of NO 2 and CO exposure. The findings underscore the critical need for strengthening air quality monitoring and protection strategies in rapidly urbanizing regions, with special attention to vulnerable populations such as minors. These results provide evidence-based …
The global disease burden attributable to unsafe water, sanitation, and handwashing with unqualified facilities from 1990 to 2019
Background: Water, sanitation, and hygiene (WaSH) are crucial determinants of human health. However, the spatio-temporal trends in the global burden of disease attributable to unsafe WaSH remain poorly understood. This study aimed to estimate the disease burden attributable to unsafe WaSH from 1990 to 2019 using data from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) Study 2019, providing new insights into the associated health conditions. Methods: We extra…
Interpreting epidemiologic distribution of total and specific IgE levels for food allergy in Southern China from 2004 to 2023
In common allergens of Southern China, egg white, milk, and shrimp ascend as the dominant subjects, underlining their imperative role in food allergy pathogenesis. This landscape-wide allergenic profiling, segregated across age clusters and enhanced by co-sensitization data, augments our power for early diagnosis and strategic intervention in food allergy diseases
Prevalence and Disability-Adjusted Life Year Rates of Asthma in China
The disease burden of asthma has varied greatly by gender and age over the past 30 years. In contrast to the increasing burden in most other G20 countries, the age-standardized prevalence rate of asthma shows a significant decreasing trend in China, however, the age-standardized DALYs rate shows a fluctuating change, and has even shown a rebound trend in recent years
Risk factors associated with smoking behaviour in recreational venues
The findings point to the importance of informing Chinese smokers about the active smoking and passive smoking harmfulness in both building support for smoke-free laws and in reducing smokers' desire to smoke within recreational venues. They also point to the importance of good enforcement of smoke-free laws when implemented. Such strategies could also serve to de-normalise smoking in China, a key strategy for reducing smoking in general
