  • Comparing Risk Profiles of Nicotine Pouch and Smokeless Tobacco Use in U.S. Adolescents: A Machine Learning Analysis

    Dae‐Hee Han, Dae-Hee Han et al.•ARTICLE•Substance Use & Misuse•2026

Background: This study identified and compared the risk profiles associated with nicotine pouch (NP) and smokeless tobacco (ST) use among adolescents (12–17 years). Methods: We used publicly available data from the most recent wave (January 2022–April 2023) of the Population Assessment of Tobacco and Health (PATH) Study (N = 10,604 [48.9% female, 51.2% 12–14 years]). A penalized logistic regression framework was used to promote parsimony and redu…

  • Trends in e-cigarette flavour use and demographic correlates among US youth from 2020 to 2023

Dayoung Bae, Tahsin Rahman et al.•ARTICLE•Tobacco Control•2025

During 2020-2023, most US youth vaped non-tobacco flavours. Reducing the availability of: (1) fruit/ice-fruit flavoured e-cigarettes might impact most US youth, especially younger teens and (2) menthol-flavoured e-cigarettes might especially impact youth vulnerable to frequent vaping and rural youth

  • Effect of packaging with versus without candy-oriented marketing themes on the appeal and sensory attributes of flavoured e-cigarettes

    Nikki S Jafarzadeh, Dae‐Hee Han et al.•ARTICLE•Tobacco Control•2024

Candy-themed marketing may heighten the appeal and sweet sensory experience of vaping flavoured free-base nicotine e-cigarettes. While marketing restrictions are predominantly intended to prevent e-cigarette initiation, candy-themed marketing restrictions could also prevent persistent use by lowering the appeal of flavoured free-base nicotine e-cigarettes

  • Effects of ‘Ice’ flavoured e-cigarettes with synthetic cooling agent WS-23 or menthol on user-reported appeal and sensory attributes

    Alayna P Tackett, Dae‐Hee Han et al.•ARTICLE•Tobacco Control•2023

Adding synthetic coolant WS-23 to e-cigarettes appears to make the vaping user experience more appealing, regardless of characterising base flavour. Regulatory agencies should be aware that the manufacturing process of adding synthetic coolants may increase the attractiveness of various e-cigarette products.Cite Now

  • Dose–response effects of two nicotine salt formulations on electronic cigarette appeal and sensory attributes

    Dae‐Hee Han, Melissa Wong et al.•ARTICLE•Tobacco Control•2023

  • Statewide vaping product excise tax policy and use of electronic nicotine delivery systems among US young adults, 2014–2019

    Dae‐Hee Han, Dae-Hee Han et al.•ARTICLE•Tobacco Control•2021

Our findings suggest that adopting a vaping product excise tax policy may help reduce ENDS use and suppress the increase of ENDS use prevalence among young adults. Considering that there are still a number of US states that have not implemented vaping product excise tax policy, wider adoption of such policy across the nation would likely help mitigate ENDS use prevalence

  • College Students’ Experience of a Food Safety Class and Their Responses to the MSG Issue

Open Access•Hyun Joung Jin, Dae Hee Han et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2019

This study examines whether students' experience in a food safety class affected their responses to the monosodium glutamate (MSG) issue and to message framing. We differentiated students into two groups depending on their involvement in a food safety class. The data were collected through in-class surveys in South Korea. A structural equation model was used where the dependent variable was students' intention to avoid MSG; the mediating variable…
