Fears of stigma perceived from unit leaders for seeking psychological services for military sexual trauma sequelae is associated with suicide risk among male service members and veterans
Comparative MMPI-2 Norms between Free and United Methodist, Catholic Priest, Episcopal, and Presbyterian Ministry Candidates
The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI-2) is often utilized to assess the suitability of ordination candidates by a religious organization. Published MMPI-2 scale scores for Roman Catholic priest, Episcopal, Presbyterians, and United Methodist ministry samples exist. However, previous research has not provided MMPI-2 scale scores for Free Methodist ordination candidates and has not provided a statistical comparison of scale scores …
Challenging Prevailing Models of US Army Suicide
Statistics behind reported suicide rates in the military are often insufficiently analyzed and portray a distorted picture of reality. Several models for identifying individuals at risk for suicide have been proposed but few show adequate predictive power to be actionable. Instead, a collaborative and consistent effort to address core drivers at the individual level may be more useful
Supervisor Variance in Psychotherapy Outcome in Routine Practice
This study is a replication of Rousmaniere et al., in which no differences in client outcome between supervisors were found and few differences in client outcome due to either degree level or experience as a supervisor were found. Hierarchical linear modeling was used to determine variance estimates in client outcome accounted for by supervisors. The longitudinal archival data set consisted of 3,030 clients, 80 therapists, and 39 supervisors at a…
Examining the impact of behavioral health encounter dose and frequency on posttraumatic stress symptoms among active duty service members
These results suggest the need to carefully monitor the frequency and overall dose of behavioral health encounters for PTSD among active duty military patients, suggesting that the greatest treatment gains occur early in treatment and that there is a need for idiographic treatment planning that addresses both the needs of the patient and the mission needs of the military command. The power of negative mood in predicting posttraumatic stress disorder and alcohol abuse comorbidity
Our results indicate that those who experience negative alterations in cognition and mood may be at increased risk of developing SUD, and that we may be able to predict which individuals in clinical settings will be strong candidates for new combined PTSD/SUD treatments. Further considerations for our results and for future directions are also discussed. (PsycINFO Database Record

Self-Other Perspective and Sexual Attitudes Affect Estimates of Sexual Risk
The development of narrative identity in late adolescence and emergent adulthood
Research on narrative identity in late adolescence and early adulthood has not extensively examined how conversational storytelling affects the development of narrative identity. This is a major gap, given the importance of this age period for narrative identity development and the clear importance of parent-child conversations in the development of narrative identity. The authors present a series of 3 studies (n = 220) examining how late adolesc…
Factors Affecting Women's Verbal Immediacy to Sexually Risky Situations
The current study used a word count measure of verbal immediacy to analyze undergraduate women's responses to a set of written vignettes describing hypothetical situations involving sexual risk. Several influences on verbal immediacy were examined, including severity of previous victimization, sexual-risk proximity, relationship intimacy, and response effectiveness. Results revealed that women with a more severe history of victimization evidenced…
