    Open Access•Elizabeth A Yeater, Katie Witkiewitz et al.•ARTICLE•Violence Against Women•2018•References: 9

This study used latent profile analysis (LPA) to identify at-risk profiles of college freshman women ( n = 481) using self-reports of alcohol consumption and sociosexuality. Analyses resulted in three profiles labeled low alcohol use-low sociosexuality, high alcohol use-medium sociosexuality, and high alcohol use-high sociosexuality. Baseline victimization predicted latent profile membership. More severely victimized women were more likely to be …

  • Using Cognitive Theory and Methodology to Inform the Study of Sexual Victimization

    Open Access•Jenny K Rinehart, Elizabeth A Yeater•ARTICLE•Trauma Violence & Abuse•2015

Sexual victimization is a prevalent problem among college-aged women. In order to investigate the mechanisms underlying sexual victimization, researchers have focused on the role of cognitive processes such as perception of sexual victimization risk, positing that difficulties with risk perception heighten women’s risk for victimization. However, researchers generally have not conceptualized risk perception in the context of a comprehensive cogni…

Elizabeth A Yeater, Julia L Austin et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2010

Homeless women are at increased risk for problematic alcohol use and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). While coping motives have been shown to mediate the relationship between PTSD symptoms and alcohol problems in victims of sexual assault and domestic violence, it is unknown whether this relationship is evident in other trauma-exposed populations. The focus of this study was to examine whether drinking to cope mediated the relationship betwe…
