  • Rhynchotalona latens (Sarmaja-Korjonen, Hakojärvi et Korhola 2000) (Crustacea, Anomopoda, Chydoridae) in Lacustrine Sediments of European Russia

    Open Access•А Г Ибрагимова, Artyom V Gusarov et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary•2024

Remains of Rhynchotalona latens (Sarmaja-Korjonen, Hakojärvi et Korhola 2000) were found in the bottom sediments of several glaciogenic lakes in northwestern Russia. Subfossil remains of the species were noted both in the bottom sediments of the Late Pleistocene and Mid-Holocene. We discovered a rare species, R. latens, in the bottom sediments of Lake Medvedevskoye (Karelian Isthmus). This species prefers shallow oligo-mesotrophic lakes with orga…

  • Air Temperature Change at the End of the Late Holocene and in the Anthropocene in the Middle Volga Region, European Russia

    Open Access•Yu P Perevedentsev, Yuri P Perevedentsev et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary•2023

The temporal variability of air temperature in the Middle Volga region from 1828 to 2021 is considered according to instrumental observations at the oldest meteorological station in the east of the East European Plain (Kazan University) and throughout the Asian part of Russia against the background of long-term climate fluctuations in the Northern Hemisphere of Earth. A general trend toward an increase in air temperature was revealed. It was foun…

  • Buried River Valleys of the Neogene and Early Quaternary in the Middle Volga Region, European Russia

    Open Access•E V Petrova, Artyom V Gusarov et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary•2023

Buried river valleys from the Neogene–Quaternary time are widespread throughout the Middle Volga region of the Russian Plain. They have been studied for a long period, since the 1940s, with the last major generalizations dating back to the 1980s. This paper presents new results based on GIS mapping using materials from the state geological study of the region in 1960–1970, 1984–1996 and 2000–2002. On the whole, the pattern of the buried valley ne…

  • Human-Altered Soils at an Archeological Site of the Bronze Age

Open Access•Ruslan Suleymanov, Gulnara Obydennova et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary•2021

This paper presents the results of studying the soils at the archeological site of the Tyater-Araslanovo-II settlement located in the Republic of Bashkortostan, eastern European Russia. The settlement functioned in the 15th–12th centuries BCE (the Late Bronze Age). We compared the soil properties at four sites in the study area: archeological (1), buried (2), affected by long pyrogenic exposure (3), and background site (4). In soil samples, the t…
