  • The Ice Again: Epistemic Exclusion of Feminisms in Academic Spaces

    Fernanda Rojas-Müller, Ana Luisa Muñoz-García et al.•ARTICLE•Women's studies quarterly•2025

In this essay, we ask ourselves about the material conditions that enable the creation of feminist knowledge, its advances and marginalizations interwoven in neoliberal, racist, and heterocispatriarchal academia. Based on a study of gender and knowledge from a feminist perspective (2021-24), this article elaborates a collective account from researchers on the epistemic exclusion of gender and feminisms in Chilean and Argentinian academic spaces. …

  • Gender knowledge, territorialising the rhizome, and playing with creative methods

    Andrea Lira, Andrea Barría et al.•ARTICLE•Gender & Development•2023•Cited by: 2•References: 9

Constructing academic knowledge in and from the global South is riddled with negotiations of oneself, our collectivities, and the demands of productivity. In our activism in and outside academia, gender knowledge emerges like grass: unpredictable, collective, abundant, messy. In policy and higher education, the field is limited by the credentials of expertise with all the restrictions, pressures, and limitations of higher education and its demand…

  • Knowledges From the South: Reflections on Writing Academically

    Ana Luisa Muñoz-García, Ana Luisa Muñoz‐garcía et al.•ARTICLE•Educational Studies•2022•Cited by: 10•References: 20

In this paper, we dialogue about the processes of knowledge construction that work through and disrupt academic regulations. As feminist, Indigenous, and non-Indigenous Latinx scholars, we build on the reflections stemming from our research of Mapuche women's biographies of schooling. We focus on three tensions of knowledge production within and beyond academic spaces. First, we explore how the knowledges (in plural) that come from our biographie…

  • Outing class in the process of internationalisation

    Open Access•Ana Luisa Muñoz-García, Ana Luisa Muñoz‐garcía•ARTICLE•Discourse Studies in the Cultural…•2021•Cited by: 1•References: 30

This article focuses on the ways in which international students from Chile narrate their experiences in the US, and the extent to which mobility across national borders reshapes social class understandings and privilege. To complete this study, I conducted 13 in-depth interviews and a focus group with five Chilean graduate international students who enrolled in an elite research university in the Northeastern region of the United States. The dat…

  • Intellectual endogamy in the university

    Open Access•Ana Luisa Muñoz-García, Ana Luisa Muñoz‐garcía•ARTICLE•Learning and Teaching•2019

This article aims to analyse the multiple ways in which the neoliberal regulation of knowledge is negotiated by returning Chilean scholars. The data gathered suggest the construction of knowledge is highly regulated by a principle of intellectual endogamy. Intellectual endogamy is characterised by conservatism, reflected in a lack of diversity in research themes and problems and maintained by a peer-review system that controls scholars’ access to…

  • Doing the work, considering the entanglements of the research team while undoing settler colonialism

    Andrea Lira, Ana Luisa Muñoz-García et al.•ARTICLE•Gender and Education•2019•Cited by: 5•References: 17

This paper presents the work of three researchers in a self-study on researcher positionality using the reflective practice and pedagogy of correspondence as preparation for future work with mapuche women in Chile. We start from the assumption that research with and on indigenous groups has a historical debt to consider given the ways in which it has historically perpetuated and been complicit in violence against indigenous people. With this is m…

  • Stretching the academic harness: Knowledge construction in the process of academic mobility in Chile

    Ana Luisa Muñoz-García, Ana Luisa Muñoz‐garcía et al.•ARTICLE•Globalisation Societies and…•2016•Cited by: 1•References: 5

In this article, we analyse the impact of academic mobility on the construction of knowledge for Chilean scholars who have studied abroad. We conducted 41 semi-structured interviews with Chilean-born scholars in the social sciences and humanities, who accepted jobs at national research universities in Chile after receiving their doctorates abroad. Findings show that international academic mobility allowed these participants to question legitimise…
