Stimulating Medical Student Professional Identity Formation Through Mentored Longitudinal Partnerships With Patient Teachers
A Longitudinal, Structured Clinical Remediation Program for Medical Students
Purpose: Clinical competency in undergraduate medical education (UME) is not obtained uniformly across all learners.1 Remediation efforts are needed when students are not progressing as expected. Though academic remediation to improve test taking is common, there is no agreed-upon structure for identification, remediation, and postremediation assessment of clinical performance struggles across UME programs.2,3 Best practices include early assessm…
The use of EPA assessments in decision-making
BACKGROUND: Entrustable professional activities (EPAs) have been introduced as a framework for teaching and assessment in competency-based educational programs. With growing use, has come a call to examine the validity of EPA assessments. We sought to explore the correlation of EPA assessments with other clinical performance measures to support use of supervision ratings in decisions about medical students' curricular progression. METHODS: Spearm…
The Efficacy of Standardized Patient Feedback in Clinical Teaching
A one-way multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) revealed significant differences among control and treatment groups on the seven combined dependent variables, Wilks' Students reported that the quality of SP feedback was very strong and additional qualitative analysis revealed further evidence to support the efficacy of providing oral SP feedback in a formative pre-clinical educational activity
