  • Formative perceptions surrounding the use of a taggant-based adherence tool to measure antiretroviral therapy adherence in people with HIV

Jasper S Lee, Leanne Loo et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS Care•2026

Adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART) is important in people with HIV (PWH). This study explores perceptions of a novel adherence measurement system (TruTag) using silica-based microparticles in ART pills that when scanned with a smartphone camera, indirectly measure adherence. Twenty PWH on ART were recruited from a community health center and operated the TruTag system during a semi-structured interview. Qualitative data were analyzed using…

  • PrEPSteps

    Open Access•Peter R Chai, Jasper S Lee et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS and Behavior•2026

One of the key pillars of Ending the HIV Epidemic is ensuring adherence to oral HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). Men who have sex with men (MSM) who also have substance use disorders experience multiple challenges to maintaining PrEP adherence. We developed a digital pill system (DPS) linked to a personalized adherence intervention, PrEPSteps, to address barriers to PrEP adherence, and tested the feasibility and acceptability of this system, …

  • Phosphatidylethanol levels and their association with withdrawal severity among individuals with severe alcohol use disorder seeking inpatient withdrawal management

Open Access•Jeong Hoo Lee, Veronica Szpak et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2025

Consistent with prior reports, PEth levels appear to correlate with patients' alcohol consumption including heavy drinking, but our results did not find that PEth levels predict alcohol withdrawal severity among heavy drinkers seeking inpatient withdrawal management. Further research is warranted to better understand the utility of PEth testing

  • Attitudes toward digital pill systems for antiretroviral therapy adherence among pregnant and postpartum women living with HIV in South Africa

    Open Access•Madison R Fertig, Jasper S Lee et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2025

Future research should explore ideal Reader systems to facilitate use among this population in SA, especially among persons who report low ART adherence or have unsuppressed HIV RNA when presenting for antenatal care

  • Sexual Networking and HIV/STI Prevention Among Men who have Sex with Men and Identify as Persons of Color in the Era of Covid-19 in Boston, MA

    Open Access•Conall O’cleirigh, James D Foley et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS and Behavior•2024

  • Leveraging A Digital Pill System to Understand Prevention-Effective Adherence to Oral Hiv Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis Among Men Who Have Sex with Men with Substance Use

    Open Access•Peter R Chai, Georgia R Goodman et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS and Behavior•2024

  • Impact of cannabidiol on reward- and stress-related neurocognitive processes among individuals with opioid use disorder

Open Access•Joji Suzuki, Sara Prostko et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2023

  • Wastewater network infrastructure in public health

Open Access•Nour Sharara, Noriko Endo et al.•ARTICLE•PLOS Global Public Health•2021

Accurate estimates of COVID-19 burden of infections in communities can inform public health strategy for the current pandemic. Wastewater based epidemiology (WBE) leverages sewer infrastructure to provide insights on rates of infection by measuring viral concentrations in wastewater. By accessing the sewer network at various junctures, important insights regarding COVID-19 disease activity can be gained. The analysis of sewage at the wastewater t…
