  • Self-reported Intimate Partner Violence Before and After Return of Recency Test Results

Open Access•Eugenie Poirot, Giles Reid et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS and Behavior•2026

We conducted a prospective cohort study to assess IPV experiences after returning recency test results to PLHIV in Rwanda. At 60 health facilities, newly diagnosed PLHIV underwent HIV recency testing and baseline viral load measurement. Recency test results were returned after viral load testing. During interviews conducted at four study visits over 6 months, participants self-reported IPV victimization and perpetration experiences with current p…

  • Viral Suppression Following Same-day Initiation Antiretroviral Therapy among Persons Aware of their Classification as Recent or Long-term Infected with HIV Per Recent Infection Testing Algorithm, Rwan…

    Open Access•Monita R Patel, David M Evans et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS and Behavior•2025

  • HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis B virus infection and male circumcision in five Sub-Saharan African countries

Open Access•Megan E Peck, Megan Bronson et al.•ARTICLE•PLOS Global Public Health•2023

Voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) has primarily been promoted for HIV prevention. Evidence also supports that male circumcision offers protection against other sexually transmitted infections. This analysis assessed the effect of circumcision on syphilis, hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection and HIV. Data from the 2015 to 2019 Population-based HIV Impact Assessments (PHIAs) surveys from Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe were us…

  • Linkage to HIV care before and after the introduction of provider-initiated testing and counselling in six Rwandan health facilities

Carmen Betsy Franse, Felix Kayigamba et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS Care•2017

HIV testing and counselling forms the gateway to the HIV care and treatment continuum. Therefore, the World Health Organization recommends provider-initiated testing and counselling (PITC) in countries with a generalized HIV epidemic. Few studies have investigated linkage-to-HIV-care among out-patients after PITC. Our objective was to study timely linkage-to-HIV-care in six Rwandan health facilities (HFs) before and after the introduction of PITC…

  • Low risk of attrition among adults on antiretroviral therapy in the Rwandan national program

    Open Access•Harriet Nuwagaba‐Biribonwoha, Harriet Nuwagaba-Biribonwoha et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2014

Attrition was low in the Rwandan national program. The above patient and facility correlates of attrition can be the focus of interventions to sustain high retention

  • Comparing two service delivery models for the prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) of HIV during transition from single-dose nevirapine to multi-drug antiretroviral regimens

Open Access•Landry Tsague, Fatima Tsiouris et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2010

All sites successfully transitioned from sd-nvp to md-ARV regimens for PMTCT. Full package sites offer the most efficient model for providing immunological assessment and enrollment into care and treatment of HIV+ pregnant women. Strengthening the capacity of stand-alone PMTCT sites to achieve the same objectives is paramount
