Open Access•Damian J Damian, Abbas Ismail et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS and Behavior•2026

  • Factors associated with unawareness of HIV-positive status among individuals aged ≥ 15 years in Tanzania

Open Access•Damian J Damian, Stephano Cosmas et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2026

Despite robust HIV case-finding interventions in Tanzania, 1 in 6 PLHIV were unaware of their HIV-positive status. Targeted HIV case-finding interventions should continue with a focus on reaching men and young people who were more likely to be unaware of their status. HIV prevention strategies, such as condom use, remain crucial, since individual behaviors were linked to awareness of HIV status

  • Feasibility of an HIV self-testing intervention

Open Access•Bernard Njau, Esther Lisasi et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2020

The findings suggest that HIVST may be feasible to implement in this study setting, with the majority of participants reporting positive attitudes, supportive perceived norms, and self-efficacy. Hence, future HIVST interventions should address the negative beliefs, and perceived barriers towards HIVST to increase HIV testing among the target population in Northern Tanzania

  • Factors Affecting Exclusive Breastfeeding among Women in Muheza District Tanga Northeastern Tanzania

Open Access•Aubrey R Maonga, Michael Johnson Mahande et al.•ARTICLE•Maternal and Child Health Journal•2015

The prevalence of EBF in our study is low compared with the national prevalence. Strategies to target beliefs that breast milk is insufficient for growth need to be strengthened in the community. Furthermore opportunity to increase EBF training during ante and postnatal visits for women should be enhanced as more than 90% of women in the district use skilled attendants during pregnancy and delivery

  • Predictors of HIV serostatus disclosure to partners among HIV-positive pregnant women in Morogoro, Tanzania

    Open Access•Elizabeth S Kiula, Damian J Damian et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2013

Six in ten HIV positive pregnant women in this setting had not disclosed their results of the HIV test to their partners. Empowering pregnant women to have an individualized HIV-disclosure plan, strengthening of the HIV provider initiated counseling and testing and addressing economic development, may be some of the strategies in improving HIV disclosure and partner involvement in this setting
