  • Karl Barth and the Purification of Divine Simplicity

    Open Access•Keith L Johnson, Keith Johnson•ARTICLE•Modern Theology•2019

Johnson investigates Karl Barth's critical appropriation of the doctrine of divine simplicity. While Barth is critical of traditional formulations of the doctrine, he understands himself to be refining the doctrine rather than rejecting it. Barth notes that Scripture attributes a diverse set of perfections to God in describing his salvific actions. These diverse perfections, however, have a fundamental unity: God does not contradict himself, but …

  • Prehistoric Puebloan yucca ( Yucca ) quids with wild tobacco ( Nicotiana ) contents: Molecular and morphological evidence from Antelope Cave, northwestern Arizona

Karen R Adams, Keith L Johnson et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Field Archaeology•2015•Cited by: 2

Unburned yucca (Yucca) quids with wild tobacco (Nicotiana) contents have been preserved within Antelope Cave in northwestern Arizona. Although the cave was visited during the Archaic, Southern Paiute, and Euro-American periods, material culture remains and radiocarbon dates indicate the heaviest use by the Virgin Anasazi (a.d. 1–1000). Quids are wads of fiber twisted or knotted into a ball for insertion into the mouth. Ten of the quids examined w…

  • Culinary Processing of Jackrabbits at Antelope Cave, Arizona

    Jacob L Fisher, Keith L Johnson et al.•ARTICLE•KIVA•2014•Cited by: 3•References: 36

The faunal assemblage from Antelope Cave, a Virgin Anasazi site located in northwestern Arizona, is dominated by jackrabbits (Lepus californicus). The excellent preservation of the assemblage allows for the development of inferences regarding acquisition, butchering, cooking, and consumption activities using patterns of fragmentation, burning, articulation, and skeletal part representation. The occupants of the site were maximizing the extraction…

  • Understanding the Pathoecological Relationship between Ancient Diet and Modern Diabetes through Coprolite Analysis: A Case Example from Antelope Cave, Mojave County, Arizona

    K Reinhard, Karl J Reinhard et al.•ARTICLE•Current Anthropology•2012•Cited by: 9•References: 32

The elevated prevalence of non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) in Native Americans of the Southwest has been explained by several authors in terms of a dietary change from preindustrial traditional foods to modern foods. Physiology adapted to traditional foods became deleterious during the process of modernization. Although several versions of this hypothesis exist, they all relate to the rise in modern NIDDM with change from prehisto…

  • Reconsidering Barth's Rejection of Przywara's Analogia Entis

    Open Access•Keith L Johnson, Keith Johnson•ARTICLE•Modern Theology•2010

Many interpreters argue that Barth's rejection of Erich Przywara's analogia entis is based upon a misinterpretation and that Barth actually incorporated a form of the analogia entis into his mature theology. Through an examination of records from Przywara's visit to Barth's seminar on Thomas Aquinas at the University of Münster in 1929 along with key texts from that period, I argue that Barth did not reject the analogia entis because he misinterp…
