  • Association between long-term ambient air pollution exposure and cognitive disorders among older adults in China

Open Access•Yu Zhang, Jiaqi Yang et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Global Health•2026

Background: Cognitive disorders (CDs) are a major public health concern in ageing societies. The association between air pollution and CDs has received considerable attention; however, the moderating role of lifestyle remains unclear. We aimed to explore the complex associations among lifestyle, its dynamic changes, ambient air pollution exposure, and CDs in older adults. Methods: We included data from the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity S…

  • The status and influencing factors of lung ventilation function in employees exposed to dust in enterprises of the XPCC, China

Open Access•Yiman Zhao, Siqi Zhao et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2024

Background: Occupational health is closely related to harmful factors in the workplace. Dust is the primary contributing factor causing impaired lung ventilation function among employees with dust exposure, and their lung ventilation function may also be influenced by other factors. We aimed at assessing the status and influencing factors of lung ventilation function among employees exposed to dust in the enterprises of the Eighth Division locate…

  • Burden of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease attributable to non-optimal temperature, 1990–2044

Open Access•Zhengyang Shi, Jianjiang Shao et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2024

In COPD burden caused by non-optimal temperature, low temperature played a more important role, and it was affected by sex, age, period, cohort and SDI. Over the next 25 years, ASMR in COPD was predicted to decline in all countries except the USA

  • Global, regional, and national burden of non-communicable diseases attributable to occupational asbestos exposure 1990–2019 and prediction to 2035

Open Access•Xinlu Miao, Teng Yao et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2024

Understanding the burden associated with occupational asbestos exposure on a global and regional scale is necessary to implement coordinated prevention and control strategies. By the GBD Study 2019, we conducted a comprehensive assessment of the non-communicable diseases burden attributable to occupational asbestos exposure. In 2019, 239,330 deaths and 4,189,000 disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) worldwide due to occupational asbestos exposur…

  • Fatal, non-fatal burden of cancer in the elderly in China, 2005–2016

Open Access•Zhen-Rong Ma, Kangqian Lin et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2023

From 2005 to 2016, the cancer burden in the elderly in China decreased, mainly reflected in the non-fatal burden. Female breast and liver cancer were a more serious burden in the younger elderly, while colorectal cancer burden was mainly observed in the older elderly

  • Patterns of global burden of 13 diseases attributable to lead exposure, 1990–2019

Open Access•Tongtong Xu, Kangqian Lin et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2023

From 1990 to 2019, the number of deaths and DALYs resulting from lead exposure increased by 70.19% and 35.26%, respectively; however, the ASMR and ASDR decreased by 20.66% and 29.23%, respectively. Ischemic heart disease (IHD), stroke, and hypertensive heart disease (HHD) showed the highest increases in deaths; IHD, stroke, and diabetes and kidney disease (DKD) had the fastest-growing DALYs. The fastest decline in ASMR and ASDR was seen in stroke…

  • Epidemiological characteristics of leukemia in China, 2005–2017

Open Access•Kangqian Lin, Huaimiao Jia et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2023

The age-standardized incidence rate of leukemia in China showed an increasing trend from 2005 to 2017, while the age-standardized mortality rate increased first and then decreased in 2012 as a turning point. Differences existed by gender and region. The risk of leukemia incidence and mortality increased accordingly with age. The risk of mortality due to leukemia gradually decreased from 2005 to 2017. Leukemia remains a public health problem that …

  • Trends of cancer incidence among Chinese older adults from 2005 to 2016

Open Access•Hong Guo, Kangqian Lin et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2022

Background To study the corresponding strategies for controlling cancer in older adults aged 60 and above in China, a comprehensive assessment of disease burden is required. Therefore, we will introduce the cancer epidemiological characteristics of older adults in China over a recent 12 year period. Methods The age-period-cohort model was constructed using the cancer incidence data from the Chinese Cancer Registry Annual Report published in 2008–…

  • The Association of Metabolic Syndrome with the development of cardiovascular disease among Kazakhs in remote rural areas of Xinjiang, China

Open Access•Wenwen Yang, Shuxia Guo et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2021

Elevations of BP, WC, and TG were independent risk factors for CVD in Kazakhs. Control of these factors is important to prevent CVD in this population

  • Effect of metabolic syndrome on coronary heart disease in rural minorities of Xinjiang

Open Access•Changjing Li, Jia He et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2020

We provide evidence that elevated blood pressure and elevated FBG are independent risk factors for CHD and it might be necessary to maintain the normal waistline for preventing CHD

  • External validation of three atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease risk equations in rural areas of Xinjiang, China

Open Access•Yunxing Jiang, Rulin Ma et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2020

All three risk equations underestimated the 5-year ASCVD risk in women, while PAR and FRS fairly predicted that in men. However, the results of predictive performances for three risk equations are inconsistent, more accurate risk equations are required in the primary prevention of ASCVD aiming to this Uyghur and Kazakh populations

  • Patterns of Life Lost to Cancers with High Risk of Death in China

Open Access•Yizhong Yan, Yu Chen et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2019

To inform public health policy and research, we analyzed the patterns of life lost to cancers and evaluated the cancer burden in China. Based on the published Chinese Cancer Registry Annual Report and related literature in 2013, we calculated the cancer-related mortality and potential years of life lost (PYLL) by age, sex, districts (urban or rural), to describe the patterns of life lost to cancers. The high death-risk cancers in China were lung,…
