  • Synergising universal health coverage and global health security in the Western Pacific Region

Open Access•Yuhua Lai, Di Liang et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Global Health•2025

Background: Universal health coverage (UHC) and global health security (GHS) should be pursued synergistically to strengthen health systems. However, existing studies found that the efforts toward the two agendas were divergent worldwide. We reviewed the synergy status between UHC and GHS in the Western Pacific Region (WPR) to provide evidence for decision-makers to promote synergy. Methods: We collected the UHC service coverage index (UHC SCI) a…

    Open Access•Lydia S Kaforau, Gizachew A Tessema et al.•ARTICLE•PLOS Global Public Health•2022

Every year, around 20 million women worldwide give birth to low birth weight (LBW) infants, with majority of these births occurring in low-and middle-income countries, including the Solomon Islands. Few studies have explored the pregnancy lived experience of women who deliver LBW infants. The aim of the study is to understand the lived experience of women in the Solomon Islands who gave birth to LBW infants by exploring their personal (socio-demo…

  • Formative Research Using Settings and Motives to Explore Child Faeces Disposal and Management in Rural Solomon Islands

Open Access•Adam Biran, Rosie Sanderson et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

Unsafe child faeces management can lead to adverse health and wellbeing outcomes for children. In Solomon Islands, diarrhoeal disease is a leading cause of under-5 mortality, though there is limited research into CFM practices and promotion of safe behaviours. The formative research applied a Behaviour-Centred Design framework to investigate the habits, motives and settings related to child faeces management in rural Solomon Islands villages. Dat…

  • Citizen science as a tool for arboviral vector surveillance in a resourced-constrained setting

Open Access•Adam Craig, Adam T Craig et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2021

While there are challenges to address, our findings suggest that citizen science offers an opportunity to overcome the human resource constraints that conspire to limit health authorities' capacity to monitor arboviral vectors across populations. We note that the success of citizen science-based surveillance is dependent on the appropriate selection of equipment and participants, and the quality of engagement and support provided
