  • Determinants of Sars-CoV-2 infection across three sentinels sites in Benin during 2021

Open Access•Aurore Atchadé, Anges Yadouleton et al.•ARTICLE•PLOS Global Public Health•2025

In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, Benin, like other regions in sub-Saharan Africa and around the world, has been grappling with a public health crisis since march 2020. The country responded to this crisis by implementing adaptive response measures. The STREESCO project is part of this dynamic effort, strengthening epidemiological surveillance at three sentinel sites. This study thoroughly examines the determinants of SARS-CoV-2 infection.…

  • Understanding the vaccine hesitancy of Covid-19 in Benin

Open Access•Daleb Abdoulaye Alfa, Jean-Yves Le Hesran et al.•ARTICLE•PLOS Global Public Health•2025

Vaccination campaigns against COVID-19 have been set up in all countries. The aim was to reach a sufficient vaccination threshold to ensure herd immunity. In Benin, the objective was to achieve 60% coverage. However, coverage was only 35% in May 2022. People were reluctant to be vaccinated. We had set up a population-based study to investigate these barriers to vaccination. Our approach was qualitative (80 semi-structured interviews with vaccinat…

  • The economic impact of the switch from single- to multi-dose PCV13 vial in Benin

    Open Access•Patrick G Ilboudo, Téné-Alima Essoh et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2022

This evaluation seemed to show that the switch from single- to multi-dose PCV13 resulted in reduced economic costs of PCV13. Vaccinating more infants together with a rigorous application of vaccine open vial policy could lead to the change being more cost-effective

  • Introduction of multi-dose PCV 13 vaccine in Benin

Open Access•Daleb Abdoulaye Alfa, Roch Houngnihin et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2020

It is important that the other countries eligible for Gavi support that are about to change to the multi-dose vial PCV13 presentation learn from Benin's experience. The main lessons learned are that changes in the presentation of an established vaccine should follow the same process as the introduction of a new vaccine, and that all stakeholders involved in vaccines and vaccination should participate in the decision-making process and implementat…

  • Low use of artemisinin-based combination therapy for febrile children under five and barriers to correct fever management in Benin

Open Access•Barikissou Georgia Damien, Badirou Aguèmon et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2018

In Benin, the use and the correct use of ACT for febrile children remains low. The study also showed that having received information about the use of ACT is positively associated with the use of ACT. This point highlights the fact that efforts may not have been sufficiently integrated with social communication, which should be based on the behavioural determinants of populations
