  • Identification of emerging harms due to Covid-19 outbreak

Open Access•Sina Ahmadi, Seyed Fahim Irandoost et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2025

The COVID-19 crisis has intensified existing social harms and introduced new ones, rendering previous mitigation strategies ineffective. Designing novel policies and guidelines is crucial to address these evolving challenges and reduce the adverse societal impacts of the pandemic

  • Global, regional, and national burden of disorders affecting the nervous system, 1990–2021

Open Access•Jaimie D Steinmetz, Katrin Seeher et al.•ARTICLE•The Lancet Neurology•2024

BACKGROUND: Disorders affecting the nervous system are diverse and include neurodevelopmental disorders, late-life neurodegeneration, and newly emergent conditions, such as cognitive impairment following COVID-19. Previous publications from the Global Burden of Disease, Injuries, and Risk Factor Study estimated the burden of 15 neurological conditions in 2015 and 2016, but these analyses did not include neurodevelopmental disorders, as defined by…

  • Chemotherapy delays among cancer patients in Iran during Covid-19 pandemic

Open Access•Moein Rast, Pedram Fadavi et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2024

We found an association between the male gender, colorectal cancer, metastatic disease and higher rates of moderate delays. The initial COVID-19 pandemic wave was associated with increased severe delays in the chemotherapy course. According to the findings of this study, male cancer patients and those with metastatic cancer are at risk of poorer prognosis due to lower adherence to treatment. These findings can assist policymakers in developing ta…

  • Retention rate in methadone maintenance treatment and factors associated among referred patients from the compulsory residential centers compared to voluntary patients

Open Access•Niayesh Radfar, Seyed Ramin Radfar et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2023

Although the average treatment adherence time for non-referred patients was about 60 days higher than those referred from compulsory residential centers, this study found no significant differences in retention days and a one-year retention rate. Further studies with larger sample sizes and longer follow-ups are needed to explore the efficacy of compulsory treatment methods in Iran

  • Global, regional, and national burden of neurological disorders, 1990–2016

Open Access•Valery L Feigin, Emma Nichols et al.•ARTICLE•The Lancet Neurology•2019

BACKGROUND: Neurological disorders are increasingly recognised as major causes of death and disability worldwide. The aim of this analysis from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2016 is to provide the most comprehensive and up-to-date estimates of the global, regional, and national burden from neurological disorders. METHODS: We estimated prevalence, incidence, deaths, and disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs;…
