  • Covid19-related and all-cause mortality risk among middle-aged and older adults across the first epidemic wave of Sars-COV-2 infection

    Open Access•Ángel Vila-Córcoles, Eva M Satué-Gracia et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2021

COVID19-related deaths represented more than 20 % of all-cause mortality occurred among middle-aged and older adults during the first wave of the pandemic in the region. A considerable proportion (around 10 %) of these COVID19-related deaths could be attributed to other concomitant causes. Theoretically COVID19-excluded subjects (PCR-negative) suffered ten-times greater all-cause mortality than healthy/unrelated-COVID19 subjects, which points to …

  • Prevalence of high, medium and low-risk medical conditions for pneumococcal vaccination in Catalonian middle-aged and older adults

Open Access•EPIVAC Study Group, Olga Ochoa‐Gondar et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2017

In our setting, approximately 50 % of overall persons 50 years or older may be considered at-risk population for pneumococcal disease (almost 10 % have high-risk conditions and 40 % have other risk conditions)

  • Clinical effectiveness of pneumococcal vaccination against acute myocardial infarction and stroke in people over 60 years

Open Access•EPIVAC Study Group, Ángel Vila-Córcoles et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2012

Our data supports a benefit of PPV23 against ischaemic stroke among the general population over 60 years, suggesting a possible protective role of pneumococcal vaccination against some acute thrombotic events

  • Rationale and design of the Capamis study

    Open Access•Ángel Vila-Córcoles, Olga Ochoa‐Gondar et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2010

The results of the study will contribute to clarify the controversial effect of the PPV-23 in preventing community-acquired pneumonia and they will be critical in determining the possible role of pneumococcal vaccination in cardiovascular prevention

  • The burden of community-acquired pneumonia in the elderly

Open Access•EVAN-65 Study Group, Olga Ochoa‐Gondar et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2008

CAP remains as a major health problem in older adults. Incidence rates in this study are comparable with rates described in Northern Europe and America, but they largely doubled prior rates reported in other Southern European regions

  • Evolution of vaccination rates after the implementation of a free systematic pneumococcal vaccination in Catalonian older adults

Open Access•EVAN Study Group, Ángel Vila-Córcoles et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2006

The pneumococcal vaccination coverage increased quickly after the introduction of the recommendation for free vaccination in all the elderly people (with and without risk factors), but two years after the improvement the coverage became stable and increased slowly
