  • Assessing the Effectiveness of Air Pollution Control Policy Mixes

Jin Xiao, Xiao Jin et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Public…•2025

In recent years, there have been extensive theoretical discourse on policy mixes. Nevertheless, empirical research on the factors contributing to their effectiveness remains limited. This study examines the relationship between two features in policy mixes design, namely intensity and balance, as well as their impacts on policy effectiveness. Using provincial-level data from China (2013–2018), this paper explores how these features enhance policy…

  • Assessing the Impact of Democratic Institutions and Administrative Capacity on National Carbon Emissions Reduction

Open Access•Yue Sun, Yixin Dai et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Public Affairs•2025•References: 16

Addressing climate mitigation goals at a national level is crucial for their overall success. This paper builds upon existing literature that identifies the national institutional setting, such as democratic polity, as a significant factor influencing a nation's commitment to, and the effectiveness of, carbon emissions reduction. However, we argue that democracy is a more complex concept than the oversimplified notion of “level of democracy.” The…

  • Sports Participation and Academic Performance in Primary School

Open Access•Yao Zhang, Jin Yan et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2023

Consistent with previous studies, the current study confirms the positive effect of sports participation on children's academic performance. For an academic-related outreach, gender-, grade- and area-specific strategies should be considered in future research

  • Exploring the therapeutic mechanism of Baduanjin in the treatment of elderly stable angina pectoris based on the gut microbiota–lipid metabolism spectrum

Open Access•Xiao Jin, Shengjie Yang et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2022

Importance: Stable angina pectoris (SAP) often occurs in the elderly and is relatively stable for 1-3 months; however, if patients do not receive effective treatment, life-threatening acute myocardial infarction could occur. Patients with different clinical types of coronary heart disease have different intestinal flora. Baduanjin, a traditional Chinese Qigong, has been used as adjuvant therapy to improve the symptoms of patients with SAP. Object…

  • Coupling agricultural system models with machine learning to facilitate regional predictions of management practices and crop production

Open Access•Liujun Xiao, Guocheng Wang et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2022

Process-based agricultural system models are a major tool for assessing climate-agriculture-management interactions. However, their application across large scales is limited by computational cost, model uncertainty, and data availability, hindering policy-making for sustainable agricultural production at the scale meaningful for land management by farmers. Using the Agricultural Production System sIMulator (APSIM) as an example model, the APSIM …

  • Will Policy Uncertainty Deteriorate Haze Pollution? A Spatial Spillover Perspective

Open Access•Xiulin Qi, Xin Wang et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

Haze has been a severe problem in China for some time, jeopardizing air quality, public health and sustainable growth. This paper examines the direct effect and spatial spillover effect of policy uncertainty on haze pollution with a spatial panel model, using prefecture-level data from 2004 to 2016. This study shows that: (1) policy uncertainty has increased the level of local haze pollution and has a significant spatial spillover effect on surro…

  • Incidence and risk factors of congenital heart disease in Qingdao

Open Access•Xiao Jin, Wei Ni et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2021

CHD is a serious health problem in Qingdao. The CHD incidence found in this study was similar to existing research. The positive rate of prenatal CHD screening was higher than the incidence of neonatal CHD. Moreover, CHD risk factors were identified in our study, and our findings may have great implications for formation CHD intervention strategies
