  • Perceived controllability of a Sars-CoV-2 infection

Open Access•Till Neugebauer, Diana Wahidie et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2022

The results show that intersectional differences in perceived controllability occur especially between migrant and non-migrant women. Possible causes may lie in language barriers, which in connection with lower health literacy may affect perceived controllability. Dedicated efforts to improve controllability among older adults, those with lower educational attainment and migrant women are warranted

  • Is exposure to secondhand smoke associated with current depression (PHQ-8) among never-smokers? Results from a survey among German adults

    Open Access•Fabian Erdsiek, Patrick Brzoska•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2020

Higher levels of SHS exposure are associated with current depression, although the nature and direction of the association are still unclear. We identified no differences in the association between men and women. More studies, particularly using longitudinal data, are needed to determine the nature of the association

  • Utilization of cervical cancer screening among migrants and non-migrants in Germany

Open Access•Patrick Brzoska, Tuğba Aksakal et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2020

The disparities identified are in line with findings from studies conducted in other countries and are indicative of different obstacles this population group encounters in the health system. Implementing patient-oriented health care through diversity-sensitive health services is necessary to support informed decision-making

  • The factor structure of the Turkish version of the Revised Illness Perception Questionnaire (IPQ-R) in patients with diabetes and cardiovascular disease

    Open Access•Patrick Brzoska, Yüce Yılmaz-Aslan et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2012

In accordance with studies on other language adaptations of the questionnaire, we identified certain items of the IPQ-R as potential sources of poor model fit. Their inclusion should be reconsidered in future applications of the questionnaire and researchers should examine whether our reduced set of items is stable across different populations. Our modified 34-item model showed a good reliability and discriminant validity and hence could be a val…
