  • Exploring the effects of altered concentrations of PM2.5 and its constituents on the incidence risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus and glucose and lipid indicators

Open Access•Minzhen Wang, Chen Sang et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2025

Reductions in the concentrations of PM 2.5 and its constituents were significantly associated with a lower risk of T2DM and improvements in glucose and lipid metabolism, particularly for decreases in mixed pollutant concentrations. Subgroup analyses suggested that women and older adults may be the primary beneficiaries of improved air qualities

  • A study of temperature variability on admissions and deaths for cardiovascular diseases in Northwestern China

Open Access•Shan Zheng, Xiaofei Zhang et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2023

TV was an independent risk factor for the increase of O&ER visits for CVDs, suggesting effective guidance such as strengthening the timely prevention for vulnerable groups before or after exposure, which has important implications for risk management of CVDs

  • Association between Short-Term Exposure to Air Pollution and Dyslipidemias among Type 2 Diabetic Patients in Northwest China

Open Access•Minzhen Wang, Shan Zheng et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2018

Air pollution exposure may play an adverse role in diabetes. However, little data are available directly evaluating the effects of air pollution exposure in blood lipids of which dysfunction has been linked to diabetes or its complications. We aimed to evaluate the association between air pollution and lipids level among type 2 diabetic patients in Northwest China. We performed a population-based study of 3912 type 2 diabetes patients in an ongoi…

  • Gender, Age and Season as Modifiers of the Effects of Diurnal Temperature Range on Emergency Room Admissions for Cause-Specific Cardiovascular Disease among the Elderly in Beijing

Open Access•Shan Zheng, Minzhen Wang et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2016

A short-term increase of DTR was significantly associated with ER admissions for cause-specific cardiovascular disease among the elderly in Beijing. Gender, age and season may modify the acute health effect of DTR. Some prevention programs that target the high risk subgroups in the elderly for impending large temperature changes may reduce the impact of DTR on people's health

  • Short-Term Effects of Gaseous Pollutants and Particulate Matter on Daily Hospital Admissions for Cardio-Cerebrovascular Disease in Lanzhou

Open Access•Shan Zheng, Minzhen Wang et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2013

Panel studies show a consistent association between increase in the cardiovascular hospitalizations with air pollutants in economically developed regions, but little evidence in less developed inland areas. In this study, a time-series analysis was used to examine the specific effects of major air pollutants [particulate matter less than 10 microns in diameter (PM(10)), sulfur dioxide (SO(2)), and nitrogen dioxides (NO(2))] on daily hospital admi…
