  • On the category and morphosyntax of numerals

    Open Access•Irina Morozova, Sjef Barbier•ARTICLE•Linguistic Variation•2025•References: 54

This paper investigates the morphosyntax of numerals. Based on Russian and Dutch, we show that a division into three subcategories is necessary: (i) numeral ONE;1 (ii) Cardinals ≥ TWO; (iii) Indefinite Numerals such as MANY (cf., Barbiers 2007). We introduce a bi-partite structure, in which a low Classifier projection is connected to a high Classifier projection by an (abstract) preposition. Building on Borer (2005), Barbiers (2007), Kayne (2019)…

  • Cross-National Rivalry: National Identity in Sports (A Case Study of English and Russian)

    Open Access•Irina S Morozova, Irina Morozova et al.•ARTICLE•Vestnik Volgogradskogo…•2022

Nationalism and sport are often interwoven and, subsequently, the competitive nature of sport competition can also mirror the contentious nature between international athletes. Evidence of such inter-group conflict may manifest itself through ethnolinguistics and is reinforced through social identity theory. Data analysis for the English and Russian languages was evaluated in four categories. Data includes Word Association Network entries for the…

  • Functional Genomic Analysis of Amphetamine Sensitivity in Drosophila

    Open Access•Caline S Karam, Brenna L Williams et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2022

Abuse of psychostimulants, including amphetamines (AMPHs), is a major public health problem with profound psychiatric, medical, and psychosocial complications. The actions of these drugs at the dopamine transporter (DAT) play a critical role in their therapeutic efficacy as well as their liability for abuse and dependence. To date, however, the mechanisms that mediate these actions are not well-understood, and therapeutic interventions for AMPH a…

  • Recent selection of candidate genes for mammal domestication in Europeans and language change in Europe: A hypothesis

Open Access•Antonio Benítez‐burraco, Evgeny Chekalin et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of Human Biology•2021

We hypothesise that these changes might account for the increased features of self-domestication in modern humans and, ultimately, for subtle recent changes in human cognition and behaviour, including language

  • Extreme climate, rather than population history, explains mid‐facial morphology of northern asians

    Open Access•Andrej A Evteev, Andrej Evteev et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•2014•Cited by: 32•References: 66

Previous studies have examined mid‐facial cold adaptation among either widely dispersed and genetically very diverse groups of humans isolated for tens of thousands of years, or among very closely related groups spread over climatically different regions. Here we present a study of one East Asian and seven North Asian populations in which we examine the evidence for convergent adaptations of the mid‐face to a very cold climate. Our findings indic…

  • Adaptive Compromisers or Inventive Reformers: Communities, Religion and Ideology in Late Socialism in Central and Inner Asia

    Irina Morozova, Ирина Морозова•ARTICLE•Inner Asia•2013

Pioneering historical comparison between Soviet Central Asia and socialist Mongolia in the last decades of socialism, this article aims to assess the role of international factors and regional geopolitics in the policies of socialist states towards religious institutions and communities. It also traces long- term sociocultural transformations of Muslim and Buddhist communities in comparative perspective, and questions how individuals and groups r…

  • Response to Sołtysiak's comment: Germans in Russia

  • Russian ethnic history inferred from mitochondrial DNA diversity

Open Access•Irina Morozova, Ирина Морозова et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•2012•Cited by: 4•References: 27

With the aim of gaining insight into the genetic history of the Russians, we have studied mitochondrial DNA diversity among a number of modern Russian populations. Polymorphisms in mtDNA markers (HVS‐I and restriction sites of the coding region) of populations from 14 regions within present‐day European Russia were investigated. Based on analysis of the mitochondrial gene pool geographic structure, we have identified three different elements in i…

  • Mass media campaigns within reach: Effective efforts with limited resources in Russia's capital city

Rebecca Perl, Ludmila Stebenkova et al.•ARTICLE•Tobacco Control•2011

Mass media campaigns, while often expensive, are proven, cost-effective interventions and should not be considered out-of-reach, especially where governments have some sway over media markets, where large media discounts are possible or where other novel strategies can be employed

  • Regional Factor in Intra-Elite Rivalry in Present Kyrgyzstan

Irina Morozova, Ирина Морозова•ARTICLE•The Soviet and Post-Soviet Review•2010•Cited by: 1

This article conceptualizes regionalism in historical perspective as repeated schemes of translocal inter-groups' allegiances and studies dynamic transformation of political elites in present Kyrgyzstan in broader social context and international change. The article starts with historical reference to the Soviet delimitation policies in Central Asia in the 1920-30s and reveals how the competition among political groups within the prospective Kyrg…

  • Differentiation of Mitochondrial DNA and Y Chromosomes in Russian Populations

    B А Malyarchuk, Miroslava Derenko et al.•ARTICLE•Human Biology•2004•Cited by: 10

The genetic composition of the Russian population was investigated by analyzing both mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) and Y-chromosome loci polymorphisms that allow for the different components of a population gene pool to be studied, depending on the mode of DNA marker inheritance. mtDNA sequence variation was examined by using hypervariable segment I (HVSI) sequencing and restriction analysis of the haplogroup-specific sites in 325 individuals represe…
