  • Role of Life’s Essential 8 in the association of night shift work with cardiovascular disease and mortality

Open Access•Yeen Huang, Yingping Xiang et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Global Health•2026

Background: Night shift work is linked to higher risks of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and mortality, but mechanisms remain unclear. Lifestyle, captured by the American Heart Association's Life's Essential 8 (LE8), may act as a modifiable mediator. We aimed to examine the associations of night shift work with CVD and mortality and quantify the mediating role of LE8. Methods: We analysed 131,844 employed participants without baseline CVD from the …

  • Association between fluoride exposure and the risk of serum CK and CK-MB elevation in adults

Open Access•Junhua Wu, Ming Qin et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2025

Background: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between urinary fluoride concentration and myocardial disease. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study that was conducted in three villages in Wenshui County, Shanxi Province. A total of 737 villagers were included in this analysis. Urinary fluoride was detected using a fluoride-ion selective electrode. Myocardial enzymes were detected using an automatic biochemical analyzer. Myocardia…

  • CD4/CD8 ratio trajectories and their impact on prognosis

Open Access•Lu Feng, Lihui Feng et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2025

Our study demonstrated that there were three different trajectories of CD4/CD8 ratio during long-term ART. Personalized interventions and treatment plans can be developed based on individual changes in CD4/CD8 ratio, which is important for improving the survival of the PLHIV and reducing disease burden

  • Association between device-measured physical activities, type 2 diabetes, and life expectancy over the next 10 years

Open Access•Ziqiang Lin, Jiade Chen et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2025

The results revealed that 24-hour physical activities might mediate the association between diabetes and mortality. Therefore, promoting participation in MVPA and reducing sedentary activities among diabetes patients was expected to have a positive effect on Life expectancy over the next 10 years

  • Trajectories network analysis of chronic diseases among middle-aged and older adults

Open Access•Jiade Chen, Fan Zhang et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2024

With the chronic disease trajectory network analysis, we found that arthritis was prone to the occurrence and development of various other diseases. In addition, patients of heart diseases/hypertension/digestive disease/dyslipidemia were under higher risk of developing other chronic conditions. For patients with multimorbidity, early prevention can preclude them from developing into poorer conditions, such as stroke, MRD, and diabetes. By identif…

  • Association between 24-Hour Movement Behaviors and Smartphone Addiction among Adolescents in Foshan City, Southern China

Open Access•Zhiqiang Ren, Jianyi Tan et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

Smartphone addiction has become a public health issue. To help reduce smartphone addiction, we assessed the combined effect of 24-Hour Movement Behaviors on smartphone addiction during Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) home confinement in Foshan, China. Data were collected in a sample of 1323 senior middle school students ((mean age ± standard deviation): 16.4 ± 0.9 years; 43.46% males) during the COVID-19 lockdown. Their 24-Hour movement beha…

  • Smoking behaviors before and after implementation of a smoke-free legislation in Guangzhou, China

Open Access•Xiaohua Ye, Sidong Chen et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2015

These findings highlight the urgent need for a comprehensive smoke-free legislation covering all public places in Guangzhou, simultaneously educational interventions and campaigns promoting voluntary changes in home smoking need to occur
