BACKGROUND: Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) account for over 80% of deaths in Sri Lanka. Addressing these diseases is challenging due to their complex social, behavioural, and environmental causes. Community-based health promotion programmes focused solely on single risk factors and education provision show limited effectiveness. Evaluating the current status of disaster-preparedness in a subset of Sri Lankan hospitals using a novel tool (pilot, validation, and implementation)

Prioritizing multilingual health communication, digital platforms, and community-based education through frontline health workers can help bridge these gaps. Integrating critical HL competencies into national education and health policies is vital…
Understanding consumer response to front-of-package labeling
These findings suggest that the traffic light system is an effective tool for guiding healthier food choices among Sri Lankan consumers. However, targeted educational campaigns are needed to address knowledge gaps, particularly among older, lower-income, and less-educated populations. Continuous evaluation and refinement of the traffic light labeling system are recommended to maintain its efficacy and relevance in promoting public health
Prevalence and determinants of healthy and balanced diet among office workers in a sedentary working environment
The dietary intake of sedentary office workers was not up to the recommendations. Meal skipping and group eating were associated with unhealthy dietary intake. This study recommends introducing interventions to improve the intake of fruits, dairy products, nuts, and seeds for sedentary office workers
Mobile Phone-Based Nutrition Education Targeting Pregnant and Nursing Mothers in Sri Lanka
The mobile intervention improved participants' knowledge, awareness, attitude, and practices, but not social norms or behaviour intentions. This approach is recommended to be used on a larger scale in community settings. In addition, mobile technology could drive intervention in pandemic-related situations
