Investigating eating patterns and risk factors of weight status among undergraduate students in a multinational cross-sectional study across 15 countries with 8,482 participants
Substantial weight imbalances exist among undergraduate students. Low fruit and vegetable intake, frequent sugary food consumption, and high screen time during meals were notable concerns. These findings underscore the need for targeted nutrition education and lifestyle interventions to promote healthier eating and weight management in this population

Prevalence and determinants of depression among pharmacy students enrolled in a newly implemented pharmd curriculum in Egypt
Depression is highly prevalent among PharmD students in Egypt, particularly those facing financial challenges or attending public universities. These findings underscore the urgent need for targeted mental health interventions and financial support programs to alleviate the psychological burden on pharmacy students
Evaluating burnout among clinical pharmacists across 23 governorates in Egypt
Two hundred twenty-two clinical pharmacists filled out the survey, 75% had moderate and above burnout levels (CBI ≥ 50). Three multivariate models were built to explore burnout across personal, work-related, and patient-related domains. Our key findings indicate that individuals facing financial strain (insufficient income and debt) are significantly more likely to experience higher burnout. Additionally, those with a master's degree (compared to…
Knowledge, attitudes, and awareness of breast self-examination among female university students in three Arab countries
The study showed a lack of knowledge and awareness among students, highlighting the need for comprehensive educational interventions and training programs within university curricula. These measures are essential for enhancing the understanding of BC and promoting the adoption of BSE practices
Burden of disease scenarios for 204 countries and territories, 2022–2050
BACKGROUND: Future trends in disease burden and drivers of health are of great interest to policy makers and the public at large. This information can be used for policy and long-term health investment, planning, and prioritisation. We have expanded and improved upon previous forecasts produced as part of the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) and provide a reference forecast (the most likely future), and alternativ…
Global burden and strength of evidence for 88 risk factors in 204 countries and 811 subnational locations, 1990–2021
BACKGROUND: Understanding the health consequences associated with exposure to risk factors is necessary to inform public health policy and practice. To systematically quantify the contributions of risk factor exposures to specific health outcomes, the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2021 aims to provide comprehensive estimates of exposure levels, relative health risks, and attributable burden of disease for 88 ri…
Global fertility in 204 countries and territories, 1950–2021, with forecasts to 2100
BACKGROUND: Accurate assessments of current and future fertility-including overall trends and changing population age structures across countries and regions-are essential to help plan for the profound social, economic, environmental, and geopolitical challenges that these changes will bring. Estimates and projections of fertility are necessary to inform policies involving resource and health-care needs, labour supply, education, gender equality,…
Global burden of 288 causes of death and life expectancy decomposition in 204 countries and territories and 811 subnational locations, 1990–2021
BACKGROUND: Regular, detailed reporting on population health by underlying cause of death is fundamental for public health decision making. Cause-specific estimates of mortality and the subsequent effects on life expectancy worldwide are valuable metrics to gauge progress in reducing mortality rates. These estimates are particularly important following large-scale mortality spikes, such as the COVID-19 pandemic. When systematically analysed, mort…
Global age-sex-specific mortality, life expectancy, and population estimates in 204 countries and territories and 811 subnational locations, 1950–2021, and the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic
BACKGROUND: Estimates of demographic metrics are crucial to assess levels and trends of population health outcomes. The profound impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on populations worldwide has underscored the need for timely estimates to understand this unprecedented event within the context of long-term population health trends. The Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2021 provides new demographic estimates for 204 cou…
Psychological distress among students in Egypt and Jordan during the initial months of the Gaza war
General distress has increased among students in Egypt and Jordan throughout the War in Gaza. Mental, psychological, and social support activities are necessary for these students, particularly those watching social media multiple times daily. The development of coping skills to manage the additional stressors of war and socioeconomic status necessitates further research within this group of students
Temporal trends in lower extremity amputation in Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region
The study reveals variable LEA trends in the MENA region, influenced by conflicts, natural disasters, and chronic diseases. These findings underscore the need for targeted public health interventions, improved healthcare access, and robust data collection systems to reduce the burden of LEAs and improve patient outcomes in the MENA region
Evaluating knowledge, attitude, and physical activity levels related to cardiovascular disease in Egyptian adults with and without cardiovascular disease
The study findings highlight a significant disparity in knowledge, attitudes, and physical activity levels related to CVD in Egypt. Targeted interventions aimed at improving awareness, fostering positive attitudes, and promoting physical activity among individuals at risk for CVD are crucial for effective prevention and management
Psychological distress among healthcare students in Poland from Covid-19 to war on Ukraine
Objectives Healthcare students went through a rough time in March 2022 due to extreme changes in the educational system (moving from online to stationary learning) and Ukrainian-Russian war circumstances. Our study aims to update knowledge about psychological distress and its impact on healthcare students in Poland after two years of the COVID-19 pandemic, followed by intense and political instability in Europe. Methods We conducted a cross-secti…
