  • Spatio-temporal variation of child stunting and associated risk factors in Rwanda

Open Access•François Niragire, Jeanine Ahishakiye et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2025

The key risk factors for the under-five child stunting and their importance varied considerably over time in Rwanda. The findings suggest the need to improve the household-level welfare by strengthening targeted and district-tailored intervention programs from a multi-sectorial perspective, and sustain the programs outcomes beyond the intervention period

  • Spatio-Temporal Bayesian Models for Malaria Risk Using Survey and Health Facility Routine Data in Rwanda

Open Access•Muhammed Semakula, François Niragire et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2023

The findings of this analysis suggest that using DHS combined with routine health services data for active malaria surveillance may provide provide more precise estimates of the malaria burden, which can be used toward malaria elimination targets. We compared findings from geostatistical modeling of malaria prevalence among under-five-year old children using DHS 2019-2020 and findings from malaria relative risk spatio-temporal modeling using both…

  • Spatio-temporal dynamic of the Covid-19 epidemic and the impact of imported cases in Rwanda

Open Access•Muhammed Semakula, François Niragire et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2023

The study recommends using evidence-based decisions in the management of epidemics and integrating statistical models in the analytics component of the health information system

  • The secondary transmission pattern of Covid-19 based on contact tracing in Rwanda

Open Access•Muhammed Semakula, François Niragire et al.•ARTICLE•BMJ Global Health•2021

INTRODUCTION: COVID-19 has shown an exceptionally high spread rate across and within countries worldwide. Understanding the dynamics of such an infectious disease transmission is critical for devising strategies to control its spread. In particular, Rwanda was one of the African countries that started COVID-19 preparedness early in January 2020, and a total lockdown was imposed when the country had only 18 COVID-19 confirmed cases known. Using in…

  • Sharing perspectives and experiences of doctoral fellows in the first cohort of Consortium for Advanced Research Training in Africa

Open Access•Babatunde Adedokun, Peter Nyasulu et al.•ARTICLE•Global Health Action•2014

BACKGROUND: Resolution of public health problems in Africa remains a challenge because of insufficient skilled human resource capacity. The Consortium for Advanced Research Training in Africa (CARTA) was established to enhance capacity in multi-disciplinary health research that will make a positive impact on population health in Africa. OBJECTIVE: The first cohort of the CARTA program describes their perspectives and experiences during the 4 year…
