  • A questionnaire for a conceptual framework and interdisciplinary public health research using the Delphi technique—development and validation

Open Access•Anita Alaze, Emily Finne et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2025

Background: The Delphi technique has become established in public health research, yet there is a lack of methodological standards in questionnaire development. We here demonstrate how the Delphi technique can be used in an interdisciplinary public health topic for framework development, and we highlight methodological challenges and possible solutions. Methods: We developed the questionnaire through a comprehensive literature review and the gene…

  • Regional Covid-19 measures and effects on subjective well-being in Germany

Open Access•Emily Finne, Anna Christina Nowak et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2025

Background COVID-19 measures in Germany varied during the pandemic, and it seems natural that in addition to factors such as incidence, health system capacity, etc., these interventions and their social and economic consequences had an impact on the evolution of the population’s well-being. Since the beginning of the pandemic, there has been a suspicion that the health burden would fall mainly on population groups with a lower socio-economic stat…

  • Feasibility of Using Survey Data and Semi‐variogram Kriging to Obtain Bespoke Indices of Neighborhood Characteristics

    Open Access•Emily Finne, Odile Sauzet•ARTICLE•Geographical Analysis•2025

Data on neighborhood characteristics are not typically collected in epidemiological studies. They are however useful, for example, in the study of small‐area health inequalities and may be available in social surveys. We propose to use kriging based on semi‐variogram models to predict values at nonobserved locations with the aim of obtaining indicators of neighborhood characteristics of epidemiological study participants. The spatial data availab…

  • Individual and school level correlates of moderate to vigorous physical activity among school-children in Germany – a multi-level analysis

Open Access•Fabian Czerwinski, Emily Finne et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2015

Our findings indicate the usefulness of applying an ecological framework to understand and explain complex health behaviors like PA. As we found gender-specific association it might be important to acknowledge that boys and girls have specific needs to be more physically active. Further research should also take other features/elements of the school environment and neighborhood as well as socio-cognitive correlates into account to advance the fie…

  • Trends in television time, non-gaming PC use and moderate-to-vigorous physical activity among German adolescents 2002–2010

Open Access•Jens Bucksch, Joanna Inchley et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2014

Although MVPA increased from 2002 to 2010 in German adolescents, the time spent in MVPA was still low. Despite the observed decrease in TV viewing, there was no overall decline in the observed screen-based behaviours, especially for girls. This is mainly due to a marked increase in use of a PC for chatting on-line, internet, emailing, homework etc. among girls during the last ten years which outweighs the corresponding decrease in TV viewing. The…
