  • Evaluation of the Pathogenic-Mixed Biofilm Formation of Pseudomonas aeruginosa/Staphylococcus aureus and Treatment with Limonene on Three Different Materials by a Dynamic Model

Open Access•Edvige Gambino, Angela Maione et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

These data showed that the limonene treatment expressed different levels of biofilm-forming genes, especially when both types of strains alone and together grew on different surfaces. Our findings showed that limonene treatment is also very efficient when biofilm has been grown under shear stress causing significant and irreversible damage to the biofilm structure. The effectiveness of the sanitation procedures can be optimized by applying antimi…

  • Understanding Knowledge and Behaviors Related to CoViD–19 Epidemic in Italian Undergraduate Students

Open Access•Francesca Gallè, Elita Anna Sabella et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

Background: On February 2020, the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) epidemic began in Italy. In order to contain the spread of the virus, the Italian government adopted emergency measures nationwide, including closure of schools and universities, workplaces and subsequently lockdown. This survey was carried out among Italian undergraduates to explore their level of knowledge about the epidemic and the behaviors they adopted during the lockdown. Metho…

  • Effects of nutrition motivational intervention in patients affected by type 2 diabetes mellitus

Open Access•Valeria Di Onofrio, Francesca Gallè et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2018

Registration number is ISRCTN11067689 ; date of registration: 10/09/2018. Retrospectively registered

  • Pseudomonas aeruginosa in Swimming Pool Water

Open Access•Marco Guida, Valeria Di Onofrio et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2016

Pseudomonas aeruginosa is frequently isolated in swimming pool settings. Nine recreational and rehabilitative swimming pools were monitored according to the local legislation. The presence of P. aeruginosa was correlated to chlorine concentration. The ability of the isolates to form a biofilm on plastic materials was also investigated. In 59.5% of the samples, microbial contamination exceeded the threshold values. P. aeruginosa was isolated in 50…

  • Health-Related Behaviors in Swimming Pool Users

Open Access•Francesca Gallè, Laura Dallolio et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2016

Guaranteeing the public display of regulations in swimming facilities is not sufficient to promote and change health-related behaviors. Much more attention should be given to educational interventions aimed to increase knowledge of health risks and the awareness that bathers are directly responsible for their own well-being

  • Awareness of health risks related to body art practices among youth in Naples, Italy

Open Access•Francesca Gallè, Caterina Mancusi et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2011

Results indicate a need for adequate information on health risks associated with body art among students in Naples, mainly among high school students. Therefore, adolescents should be targeted for public health education programs

  • Pattern of fractures across pediatric age groups

Open Access•Giuliana Valerio, Francesca Gallè et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2010

Gender differences were shown in the prevalence of injuries, characteristics, and circumstances across ages. These differences may be explained by the related changes in behaviors, together with attending different places. Individual and lifestyle factors can in part explain the variability in the occurrence of fractures and can also address targeted preventive strategies

  • Compliance with herpes zoster vaccination in young and adult individuals in two regions of Italy

Open Access•Antonino Parlato, Vincenzo Romano Spica et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2010

Compliance versus vaccination results were satisfactory and probably, with the upcoming availability of the HZ vaccine in Italy, adults will be favourably disposed towards vaccination
