  • Childhood chronic stress associated with abnormal brain white matter networks in first-episode, drug-naïve MDD adolescents

Open Access•Zheng Wang, Zhujun Wang et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2026

We found that chronic childhood stress is associated with local topological abnormalities in multiple regions of the white matter structural networks of adolescents with MDD. These altered white matter network topological properties may be utilized in the future to aid in identifying depressive subtypes with high childhood stress exposure

  • The correlation between different types of negative life events and the mental health status of Han ethnic adolescents in Sichuan Province

Open Access•Shoukang Zou, Yangling Li et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2026

Sleep and core self-evaluation are important mediating factors in the relationship between negative life events and mental health status. Interpersonal stress and adaptation problem in negative life events were the main risk factors for mental health problems among adolescent students. We expect to provide data to support the early prevention and intervention of mental health problems among adolescents. Special attention should be given to the me…

  • The efficacy of meditation on insula dysfunction in patients with chronic schizophrenia

Open Access•Di Kong, Shoukang Zou et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2025

Long-term treatment with meditation can improve the overall psychiatric symptoms of patients with schizophrenia and the abnormal dynamic functional association of the insula, which provides a clinical and neuroimaging basis for the widespread application of meditation in the treatment of schizophrenia

  • Co-expression network of mRNA and DNA methylation in first-episode and drug-naive adolescents with major depressive disorder

Open Access•Yuanmei Tao, Hang Zhang et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2023

Objective We explored the DNA methylation and messenger RNA (mRNA) co-expression network and hub genes in first-episode, drug-naive adolescents with major depressive disorder (MDD). To preliminarily explore whether adolescent MDD has unique mechanisms compared with adult MDD. Methods We compared DNA methylation and mRNA profiles of peripheral blood mononuclear cells from four first-episode and drug-naive adolescents with MDD and five healthy adol…

  • Interactive effect between sleep and exercise on depressive symptoms in Chinese adolescents

Open Access•Shoukang Zou, Fang Deng et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2023

Adequate sleep and adequate exercise are individually associated with milder depressive symptoms in Chinese adolescents. Our results further highlight the need for researchers and clinicians to take into account not only the individual but also the joint effects of sleep and exercise on depression in adolescents when conducting research and designing interventions. If sleep or physical exercise has substantially reduced the risk of depressive sym…

  • Correlation between negative life events and suicide attempts among Yi adolescents with HIV/Aids in Liangshan Prefecture

Open Access•Xiaozhen Song, Shoukang Zou et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2023

The proportion of suicide attempts among Yi adolescents with HIV/AIDS in Liangshan Prefecture is high and should be considered. Negative life events are independent risk factors for suicide attempts, and it is necessary to strengthen the screening and early intervention for suicide attempts in HIV/AIDS adolescents with definite negative life events
