Where did they go? Describing and reengaging people with HIV lost to follow-up in the Piscis Cohort Study
Reengaging patients lost to follow-up (LTFU) is crucial to achieving the UNAIDS 95-95-95 targets. This study analyses an intervention aimed at identifying and reengaging LTFU individuals in the PISCIS Cohort in Catalonia. The cohort included 28,033 people living with HIV (PLWH) across 17 hospitals in Catalonia and two in the Balearic Islands as of 2021. LTFU was defined as no contact with HIV care in any Catalan hospital for ≥12 months between Ju…
Adenosine A2A Receptor Antagonists in Neurodegenerative Diseases
In this opinion paper, we provide scientific-based reasons about the huge therapeutic potential of adenosine A2A receptor antagonists, and about the huge challenges to demonstrate efficacy in clinical trials, i.e., to provide data now required to approve a new medication by the regulatory bodies, such as U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Adenosine is an autacoid present in all tissue and body fluids. Adenosine, whose extracellular concentr…
The continuum of HIV care in Catalonia
The objective was to produce a cascade of care for Catalonia to gain a public health perspective on the overall quality of HIV services and allow comparison with other countries. It was constructed using the Integrated Epidemiological Surveillance System of HIV in Catalonia and data from the PISCIS Cohort. Estimates of the number of people living with HIV in Catalonia are modelled using Spectrum Projection Package 2011 (UNAIDS/WHO). Totals for ea…
SP1-33 Changes in health related quality of life after hip or wrist fractures due to falls in elderly people
Introduction Falls with fractures in elderly people are common situations. Wrist and hip fractures are the most common or severe respectively. The goal of this study was to determine the Health Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) evolution, and which clinical and social factors predict its change after those fractures, by measuring HRQoL by the SF-12 questionnaire. Methods Patients older than 65 years who attended the emergency room (ER) of seven acu…
SP1-35 Predictors of change in joint function after hip or wrist fractures due to falls in elderly people
Introduction Falls with hip or wrist fractures in elderly people are common situations. The goal of this study was to determine the joint function and which clinical and social factors predict change after those fractures, measured by the short-WOMAC or QuickDASH questionnaires. Methods Patients older than 65 years who attended the emergency room (ER) of seven acute hospitals with a hip or wrist fracture due to a fortuity fall were recruited. Pat…
SP1-30 Predictors of recovery of functionality after hip or wrist fractures due to falls in elderly people
Introduction Hip fractures are one of the most severe fractures that elderly patients may suffer while wrist fractures are among the most common. The goal of this study was to determine which clinical and social factors predict a better recovery of functionality, as measured by the Barthel questionnaire, after those fractures. Methods Patients older than 65 years who attended the emergency room (ER) of 7 acute hospitals with a hip or wrist fractu…
In-hospital mortality after stomach cancer surgery in Spain and relationship with hospital volume of interventions
Despite the limitations of our study, our results corroborate the existence of patient, clinical, and intervention factors associated to greater hospital mortality, although we found no clear association between the volume of cases treated at a centre and hospital mortality
