Human papillomavirus vaccination hesitancy among young girls in Ethiopia
Background Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccinations protect against HPV infections. The infection might lead to vaginal cancer, vulvar cancer, genital warts, cervical intraepithelial neoplasia lesions, and cervical cancer. This study assessed hesitancy of HPV vaccination, associated factors, and barriers to vaccination among youth girls in Ethiopia. Methods An institutional-based cross-sectional study was conducted among female undergraduate stude…
Machine learning algorithms to predict khat chewing practice and its predictors among men aged 15 to 59 in Ethiopia
Introduction: Khat chewing is a significant public health issue in Ethiopia, influenced by various demographic factors. Understanding the prevalence and determinants of khat chewing practices is essential to developing targeted interventions. Therefore, this study aimed to predict khat chewing practices and their determinant factors among men aged 15 to 59 years in Ethiopia using a machine learning algorithm. Methods: This study used data from th…
A multilevel analysis of factors associated with unimmunized children in Ethiopia
Introduction: In Ethiopia, 16% of deaths among children aged less than 5 years are attributable to diseases that can be prevented through vaccination. However, studies carried out in Ethiopia to date have not investigated how community- and individual-level factors affect children who receive no vaccine at all. Hence, this study aimed to assess the factors associated with unimmunized children in Ethiopia. Methods: This study is a secondary analys…
Multilevel analysis of improved water utilization and associated factors in Yemen
Access to clean drinking water is essential for public health and quality of life. Yemen faces a severe water crisis driven by scarcity, groundwater overexploitation, and socio-political instability. This study analyzed data from the 2013 Yemen Demographic and Health Survey (17,333 weighted samples from 8,794 households) to identify household and community factors influencing access to improved water sources. A multilevel logistic regression was …
Application of machine learning algorithms to model predictors of informed contraceptive choice among reproductive age women in six high fertility rate sub Sahara Africa countries
Nearly six out of ten women received informed contraceptive choice, the magnitude is highest in Burkina Faso and lowest in Mali. Moreover, the highest spatial clustering of informed choice of contraceptive was observed in Burkina Faso while the lowest clustering was found in Angola. The LGBM classifier outperformed among machine learning algorithms and achieved 73% accuracy and an AUC of 0.80. Key factors influencing informed contraceptive choice…
Analysis of heavy metals and minerals in edible vegetable oils produced and marketed in Gondar City, Northwest Ethiopia
To address the exceeded levels of heavy metals, it is imperative to implement more careful handling, processing of raw materials, and filtering practices. Producers and marketers should take the necessary precautions to prevent contamination. Strict regulatory control from responsible bodies and stakeholders is recommended to ensure the safety and metal contents of vegetable oils originating from the study area
Healthcare professionals' knowledge, attitude and its associated factors toward electronic personal health record system in a resource-limited setting
Introduction: Electronic personal health record (e-PHR) system enables individuals to access their health information and manage it themselves. It helps patient engagement management of health information that is accessed and shared with their healthcare providers using the platform. This improves individual healthcare through the exchange of health information between patients and healthcare providers. However, less is known about e-PHRs among h…
Spatial and multilevel analysis of sanitation service access and related factors among households in Ethiopia
Background Billions of people have faced the problem of accessing appropriate sanitation services. This study aimed to explore the spatial distribution of households’ access to sanitation services and identify associated factors in Ethiopia. Methods The 2019 Ethiopian Mini Demographic and Health Survey data was used with a total of 6261 weighted samples. A cross-sectional study design with a two-stage cluster sampling technique was used. Global M…
Spatial distribution of incomplete immunization among under-five children in Ethiopia
Incomplete immunization was reduced overtime across the study periods. The spatial distribution of incomplete immunization was clustered and High-risk areas were identified in all the study periods. Predictors of incomplete immunization were identified in the three consecutive surveys
