  • Perceptions of cancer risk communication in individuals with overweight or obesity– a qualitative interview study

Open Access•Åsa Grauman, Erica Sanga et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2025

Participants experienced that risk information, when presented as simplified associations between obesity and cancer, felt personally relevant but difficult to act upon, and therefore burdensome to bear. Consequently, the information risks failing to prevent cancer and may instead cause harm to the people it purports to benefit. Participants suggested several ways to improve the provision and benefit of such information, including introducing mul…

  • Through the looking glass

Open Access•Dana Chow, Dana Wai Shin Chow et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2024

More young people are living in the world than ever before, 90% of whom reside in low and middle income countries (LMICs). To address their needs, it is critical to have sustainable youth engagement when determining policy and to advance effective implementation of youth-focused interventions. Youth Community Advisory Boards (CABs) are a sustainable mechanism to achieve this goal. This paper describes engagement with youth CAB members across four…

  • Optimizing delivery strategies for 3HP TB preventive treatment in Tanzania

Open Access•Doreen Pamba, Erica Sanga et al.•ARTICLE•PLOS Global Public Health•2024

Tanzania rolled-out a 12-dose, weekly regimen of isoniazid plus rifapentine (3HP) TB preventive treatment in January 2024. The 3HP completion rate is generally ≥80%, varying by delivery strategy and programmatic setting. Before the roll-out, a mixed methods study was conducted to assess whether a family approach involving family member support, SMS reminders, and three health education sessions was acceptable and optimized 3HP uptake and completi…

Open Access•Brenda Kitilya, Erica Sanga et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2023

The findings demonstrated differing perceptions, facilitators and barriers of physical activity among PLWH. Interventions addressing awareness, gender stereotypes and roles related to physical activity from individual to community level are needed. Supportive environment and infrastructures are needed to improve physical activity levels in PLWH in Tanzania

  • Unlocking the health system barriers to maximise the uptake and utilisation of molecular diagnostics in low-income and middle-income country setting

Open Access•Nyanda Elias Ntinginya, Davis Kuchaka et al.•ARTICLE•BMJ Global Health•2021

BACKGROUND: Early access to diagnosis is crucial for effective management of any disease including tuberculosis (TB). We investigated the barriers and opportunities to maximise uptake and utilisation of molecular diagnostics in routine healthcare settings. METHODS: /rifampicin (MTB/RIF) and Line Probe Assay (LPA) as a benchmark, we evaluated the barriers and how they could be unlocked to maximise uptake and utilisation of molecular diagnostics. R…

  • Understanding factors influencing linkage to HIV care in a rural setting, Mbeya, Tanzania

Open Access•Erica Sanga, Ferdinand C Mukumbang et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2019

Linkage to HIV care is an important step towards proper management of HIV. We found that access and linkage to care are influenced positively and negatively at all levels, however, the individual-level and health system-level factors were most prominent in this setting. Interventions must address issues around stigma, denial and inadequate awareness of the value of early linkage to care, and improve the capacity of HIV treatment/care clinics to i…
