Household and area income levels are associated with smoking status in the Korean adult population
The results showed that smoking is strongly associated with household income status in both men and women, and area-level income is partly associated with smoking. Effects of area-level income on smoking differed by sex and region. These findings suggest that area characteristics have contextual effects on health related behavior independent of individual characteristics
Association of smoking status, cumulative smoking, duration of smoking cessation, age of starting smoking, and depression in Korean adults
Our data demonstrate that smoking is strongly associated with depression, particularly among females. These findings suggest that depression prevention may need to be combined with smoking prevention and that different strategies may be needed for males and females
Gender differences in the association between self-rated health and hypertension in a Korean adult population
SRH was independently associated with hypertension in a Korean adult population. This association was modified by gender
Cumulative smoking exposure, duration of smoking cessation, and peripheral arterial disease in middle-aged and older Korean men
Cumulative smoking exposure and duration of smoking cessation were significantly associated with PAD in middle aged and older Korean men
Alcohol consumption and carotid artery structure in Korean adults aged 50 years and older
The results of our study indicate that alcohol consumption is inversely related to carotid IMT and positively related to carotid plaques in men, but not women. However, alcohol intake is positively associated with CCA-diameter in both men and women. Additional large population-based prospective studies are needed to confirm the effects of alcohol consumption on carotid artery structure
Validating the Time and Change test to screen for dementia in elderly Koreans
We conclude that the T&C test is useful as supplemental testing of important domains (e.g., calculation, conceptualization, visuospatial) to traditional measures such as the MMSE. However, because T&C test is simple, rapid, and easy to use, it can be applied conveniently to elderly subjects by non-specialist personnel who receive training
