Development of a new segmentation algorithm for “precontemplation” stage in lifestyle change among high-risk populations for lifestyle-related diseases
Introduction Specific health guidance programs provide motivational support to individuals in the precontemplation stage of the Transtheoretical Model (TTM) to encourage behavioral changes. However, this stage may encompass heterogeneous attitudes beyond simple lack of health interest. This study aimed to develop a novel segmentation classification incorporating behavioral economics concepts to better characterize the precontemplation population …
Exploring the Utility of a Machine Learning Approach with Mobile‐Based Cognitive Function Tasks for Detecting Depression
Self‐report questionnaires, used for detecting major depressive disorder (MDD) in daily life, may incur biases stemming from social desirability and repetitive answers. Though detection based on mobile sensing was being developed recently, it cannot sufficiently promote self‐help action due to the characteristics of passive feedback. Thus, an active self‐monitoring and feedback system is crucial for individuals to recognize and address their malf…
Changes in Social Relationships after Participation in a Group Intervention for Japanese Patients with Cancer
Studies of group interventions on social relationships among patients with cancer have suggested that such interventions can increase patients' social support and help build social support networks, which are expected to reduce the sense of loneliness among them. The purpose of this study was to qualitatively investigate the relationships between participation in group therapy and social relationships among patients with cancer. Seven participant…
Behavioural changes in high school students and their parents, following their participation in seminars on discrimination and prejudice regarding radiation exposure
This is the first report evaluating the efficacy of the 'Radiation College' seminar of the 'GU-GU-RU' project. The findings can be viewed as 'long-term follow-up initiatives and their effects' following a nuclear disaster from the public health and education perspectives. This type of seminar, containing content targeting a different generation, could be an effective approach to address various forms of emerging social discrimination and prejudic…
Developing a Comprehensive Scale for Parenting Resilience and Adaptation (CPRA) and an assessment algorithm
The CPRA enables researchers to understand the strengths and weaknesses of mothers. Mother's maladaptive states can potentially be predicted by understanding the interactions between these multiple factors. The developed model can provide the necessary support to mothers and increase mothers'-and others'-awareness of the support that can prevent childcare maladjustment
Development of information dissemination methods that contribute to improving maternal and child healthcare using social networking sites
Our results indicate that usefulness of SNS messaging for mothers raising small children may reduce their feeling of loneliness. Among the SNS, disseminating child-rearing information on Instagram may be more effective for people with financial instability
Tailored message interventions versus typical messages for increasing participation in colorectal cancer screening among a non-adherent population

Development of an efficient strategy to improve HPV immunization coverage in Japan
Following what we foresee as the inevitable restart of the Japanese government's recommendation for receiving the HPV vaccine, we expect to first see vaccinations occurring in a very small group of girls, the daughters of the most willing mothers, which will be roughly 4 % of those eligible for government paid vaccinations. This will be followed by the spread of vaccinations outward through these girls' circle of friends and acquaintances, and, f…
Cost-effectiveness of a tailored intervention designed to increase breast cancer screening among a non-adherent population

The relationship between health-related quality of life and social networks among Japanese family caregivers for people with disabilities
AIMS: The purpose of this study was to examine HRQOL depending on whether the participants have family members with disabilities or not. In addition, we examined the relationship between HRQOL and social networks among family caregivers in Japan. METHODS: The study has a cross-sectional design. Survey forms were distributed to 9205 people aged 30 and older who visited a dispensing pharmacy within fifteen areas of Japan. We collected data on gende…
